He had a scale cleaning appointment in Othard that week? No? How about visiting his parents on their alien-dragon holiday? That one's no good either, eh? Hmm...

I remember something from the 1.x era about there being a crystal underneath silver tear lake.
Could it be Hydaelyn's Coporial Form? The imprisoned Zodiark? Or Something else.entierly?
Looks like only 3.x will tell us.

We know the Allagans had the ability to trap and control primals. If you watch the version 1 opening movie when they crash into Silvertear lake a whole slew of primals issue forth. We can clearly see ifrit and titan as well as a bunch more blurred out.
So basically, imo, Silvertear lake stored the hidden and forbidden technology of the Allagans to control primals as well as a ton of primals themselves. There has to be at least a hundred released during the time of the battle. Midgardsomer likely had a pact with Hydaelyn to keep the tech buried and the primals with it. Their release also coincides with the Ascians teaching the beast tribes to summon primals and teaching others, such as the Moogles and the Holy See to become their own, why would they have not done it beforehand since we know they have been around for a long long time. The primals were likely trapped and the tech most likely sought and captured any real or pseudo-primals such as shiva and king mog that appeared.

The Allagans could contain primals, but it was an immense amount of work, and never mind the fact that Midgardsormr and his pact predate the Empire by who knows how long. It was also, presumably, based on the technology utilized in the Heart of Sabik, which predates them as well.
We know from Lahabrea that at some point there was a civilization more advanced than Allgan could ever dream of being.

I like where your head's at, but there are a few key flaws in the theory that I'd like to point out.
If a primal is nothing more than a thoughtform: a manifestation of the consciousness of an individual or group; something we've known since before Hraesvelgr confirmed it, then there's no surefire way to keep them from being summoned other than controlling all who are capable of summoning. So, the act of capturing and containing a primal was only somewhat effective as long as all potential summoners knew of it and believed that any attempt to again call the primal forth would be futile. Yes, the Allagan-supermax still would've had an aetherial contruct behind its bars, but another of the same name was always available for summoning.
Again, my point is that it's not as if the primal-splosion caused by the crash of the Agrius in 1562, Sixth Astral Era, released the primals, allowing them to be summoned, as they were never not able to be summoned. Also, if primals were truly being stored beneath Silvertear Falls by Allag, they would've been released in their physical forms, and began rampaging throughout Eorzea (See: Bahamut). Being that there is no evidence to support a primal-pocalypse in the Sixth Astral Era, I think it's safe to rule that much out.
Something definitely happened in that moment, though, more than we realize, I believe, and there was a reason primals were shown escaping from that fount of light. The best theory we've had so far is that, with the Agrius, Midgardsormr accidentally broke the faucet to the sink that he, himself, guarded, and the planet's aether began to gush, rather than releasing its usual trickle. The pillar of light depicts this, and the primals shown within foreshadow the increase in the frequency of their summoning, due to realm-side aether now being far more abundant.
As to what exactly was on the other side of the lake's seal, please, continue speculating. I'll keep my own to myself for now. And, as was mentioned earlier in this thread, all shall be revealed within the span of 3.X. So, please look forward to it!

Just because the Primals are nothing more than thoughtforms doesn't mean that whatever allows them to be funneled into the physical realm can't be somehow limited. We're talking gods and godlike creatures here. It's very possible that Midgardsormr really did have the ability to control the shaping of aether in such a way as to seal the ability to summon Primals. The Allag and other highly advanced civilizations before them may have been on the way to developing technology that could mimic that very ability.
It's possible, too, that once a Primal is summoned it claims a temporary monopoly on that 'flavor' of aether, preventing other Primals of the same type from coming into existence. Primals are more than once mentioned to be massive consumers of aether, and it could put such a strain on reality that it is self-limiting.

Personally, I'm hoping that its nothing to do with the Allag. The Allag are great and all but you can have too much of a good thing and I don't want it to reach the point were everything historical has to do with the Allag. They were only one of 6 Astral Eras.
Considering Midguardsormr came to Hydaelyn back in the Divine Era, I can almist Guarentee what ever he's guarding has absolutly nothing to do with Allag.
Now Allag did find plenty of Ooparts that predated them and were even more advanced (The Heart.of Sabik being one) but they didnt fully understand them.
The same as Garlemauld basing much of their Magitek off of Allag's technology but cant actually controll Allag's tech its self.
Midguardsormr I'm betting was incharge of Guarding the Crystal under Silvertear Lake. What that Crystal is, Only Yoshi-P and Fern know for shure.
