Is Patience/Hooksets really worth the trouble?

The devs really have to look into these two abilities and make them more worth using than they currently are (Patience II is nigh-on useless at this point). If Patience is going to penalize us so harshly for not even an ensured HQ catch, the Hookset abilities need to completely cancel those penalties out and the fish's natural evasion. This really isn't asking too much of a 2-minute ability that eats up nearly 2/3 of our GP.

Depends on what you're doing.

I still don't use them to catch old big fish because the fail chance is still super high just because of RNG. Even with removal of the debuff with the hookset you'll still lose the fish a fair amount of times or get a NQ fish lol.

I only use it when gathering for scripts. Otherwise it's not worth my time to sit there and wait around for Cordials to come off CD or my GP to regen.

it's so easy to use patience and get tons of HQ fish that i think i'm cheating. yes, patience IS worth the trouble. patience 2 is very situational, yes. caught a HQ nepto dragon with patice 2 just for fun ^^ patience 2 is nice for rarer fish where you let most fish go away and only use the hookset for one specific fish.

i have over 640 GP now and can use powerful hookset for every single fish while the patience 1 buff is on. even without GP when you can't use any of the hooksets the chance to get the fish in HQ is still higher than without patience.

Personally I have more luck without the skills when catching old big fish.

1. Patience is a great help when going after mooched and multi-mooched fish and HQs for leves and quests. You just need to have a large enough GP pool (600 seems to work well for me) to get the most use out of it. Consider how much easier it is to get Kuno the Killer (double mooch then a double mooch) and Frilled Shark (triple mooch) now than it was pre-3.0.
2. Patience II is likely intended for future collectible fishing when we have a larger (700+) GP pool.

Using Patience efficiently can often be about knowing what kind of tug your fish is caught on. This can save you a huge amount of GP over your 2min(?) period the buff is up.

I've 670 gp and can use powerful/precise hookset 3 times in a row + 1 or 2 more times with recharging gp

it makes fishing really easy :s
