Lack of housing plots are a huge factor in the buying / selling of Gil.

House prices really aren't that bad if you're a crafter, sell carries or buy/sell "hot" items. Also a group of crafters/sellers (a FC) can easily raise enough gil for a house(even to buy it from another player). I don't know anyone who buys gil and I doubt it's as common as you think. I'm sure once in awhile a lazy player buys gil for housing... but if they're lazy then they'd probably do it for all kinds of reasons, not just housing.

I agree only morons buy gil. If I ever caught one of my friends doing it I'd report them on a drop of a dime. I don't care how long I've known them or if they were in my raid group. But my friends and I work together to make gil so I'm pretty certain none of them buy gil. Gathering mats for eachother, crafting, etc. When thav silk was hot, we'd put together a full party, buy a buttload of maps from the market and do them together. I don't remember exactly how much I made, but it was more than 30mil since they use to sell for 5mil each at their peak. \o3o/

IDK, gil buying might be more common than I think. It's just totally unnecessary.

The one person I know who bought a house on a resale did so at a steep discount because the owner was moving servers and wanted to get out ASAP. She relinquished for 2 million. The lot itself was another three million, and the permit to build was 300K. She didn't have that much on hand, so I gave her a 3.5 million gil loan, which she paid off over the next month.

I managed to buy my house from the server last month due to an incredible series of events that will not likely be repeated with any frequency (dead FC with 1 member left as leader, and that person deleted character or something.)

It really depends on your server. When I'm in full on crafting mode, I can crank out a million gil every other day. If I didn't spend it on frivolous things (like a house... and fat cats for people's birthdays) I'd have tens of millions of gil, easily.

Whenever there is something with huge price tags attached, it crops up.

Even without those, sometimes. I have yet to play a game that's in beta that isn't full of gold seller ads anymore. They got sites up and running before the game even launches.

New housing is coming, repossessing of abandoned plots is coming, just be patient. More housing is needed for sure but contributing to the problem by paying resellers exorbitant prices wont help. And relative to gil resellers we wouldn't have as many as we do if enough people didn't buy from them. Lots more than we think do, at least in my opinion.

How do people afford those carries anyway? Last I heard, A1 Savage goes for 30 million+ gil. On Reddit there are plenty of run sellers who claim that their clients don't even have a single one of their crafters leveled up, so it's likely a lot of people who buy runs also buy gil (other than crafters or those who have found a niche item to profit from). If buying gil wasn't so common I don't know how the people operating the bots would be able to afford new accounts to bot their gil, or spam their RMT. Some of them may be hacked accounts, but I doubt people are getting their accounts hacked willy nilly (unless they're really stupid when it comes to downloading files and whatever).

I'm glad that I'm on a JP server, I don't even remember the last time I got a PM from a gil seller (if I've even got one since moving here).

Personal Housing was not properly handled and became a clutch. There really isn't anything special about it. I own a med. and the only thing that is useful is a garden. Everything in your FC is provided for you in that house.

I feel like reselling plots like this should be a bannable offense as it just breaks the system completely.... but this is coming from someone who doesn't craft/gather so I never see the kind of money to purchase normally. Though I would love a little house in the Goblet, I'm quite content with a room in my FC's house.

The deal with the whole "RMT issues are exasperated by the housing situation," is that SE knows. Despite the fact that they initially had a system that had plots auto abandoned if the owners/Free Company hadn't logged in a month's time, people freaked out as the initial housing prices were so frighteningly steep on legacy servers that players who COULD afford them were terrified of losing all the money they had earned if they had to take a month or two off for school or something.

....Which I actually think is a legit thing to panic over when you with your company banded together to spend 260 Million Gil on a mansion!
