With the old system, you could purposely attack slowly to give you tank some breathing room if they needed it.
With this system, besides turning away to stop autoattacking, which I've never really seen anyone do, you really don't have much control over the amount of damage you do or the amount of hate you accumulate. Except if you decide to sit on your TP and not use it.
With mashing 1 I could never talk to my LS mates because most of the time During battle I'm pressing 111111 2-0 on the occasion and then more 11111111. That got annoying in my opinion. So Auto-Attack is a welcome change for me, I personally didn't like the old system, but to each of there own ^^ =)That's not exactly the kind of control I ment Star. =P

You can also turn off auto attack by closing the action bar, that's what I do.
I think auto-attack is pretty nice as long as it gets a better method of turning it on/off, which they're planning.

You have plenty of control over when you attack or when you stop attacking. Although I can see someone whining about how boring auto-attack is instead of paying attention to the battle and pulling too much hate.



Well, people asked for it, they got it, and others are suffering for it. Now the battle system sucks and now I'm thinking that games are going to be point and click forever because people prefer that slow stand in place system instead of:

Like, can we get some depth? innovation? Something "NEW" that this game was supposed to be, but now has taken 10 steps backward? Forget "speeding up" auto attack, I want gameplay to pull me in, not this point and click thing we've had for over 10 years or more and people still say it's INNOVATIVE AND IS DEEP IN BATTLES AND GAMEPLAY.. *standing in place playing rock paper scissors with an AI isn't "deep gameplay" blocking/jumping/other stuff in real time is (FFXIV's competitors are looking pretty good right now with all of these real time/freedom/gameplay right now) :

EDIT: The "It's not finished yet" argument isn't valid because it doesn't change the fact that we have this point and click system, defend it all you want with the "oh it's not finished were getting a few tweaks sometime around 1.21" Were still pointing and clicking here no matter how much you want to sugarcoat it..

I hate the new auto attack, anyone that knows me will tell you I havent even equipped a weapon for combat more than 5 times since the patch came out. Its a terrible system. I play pug and some may say it helps pug i say it makes pug sluggish and dumbed down.
I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!

I like auto-attack, but you are absolutely right about PGL being sluggish. Before, our crits did 4 attacks instead of 2. I wish SE kept that "double attack" effect for PGLs crits.


To me FF means a game complicated enough that only the people that take the time to make strategies and learn the systems in the game get to excel in the game. Of course that is a little overkill for an MMO, but when they implemented Auto attack they may have gone too far in the other direction.
