It looks more like the people who did not get into the voting part didn't get in because their hairstyles did not fit in with Eorzean attire. That flashy one with the fluorescent tinting is a good example of not representing Eorzea.

All the entries who got into voting looked like they "could" belong in the world.

Yet, the devs have stated that we are getting an Afro hairstyle at some point. (They ran into issues with polygon count, or something, which is why we don't currently have it)

My country was not among the ones allowed to participate, but if it was I would have made a long curly or wavy hairstyle without bangs. Possibly with a side parting. Here's a wee doodle I made whilst watching tv. I think it might be too long for the competition though.

I'm pretty sure the point of that tinting is to show where tinting goes, and not that it should be fluorescent. Obviously tint color is always going to be limited to the hair color palette available to each race.

Besides, several of the finalists did this very thing and it obviously didn't cause problems for them, and I would argue quite a few of them as hairstyles don't "fit within Eorzea".

And I need to say. The 25 chosen ones per gender make me kinda angry. some look similar, most are from japan, many are not creative, some designs belong to SE. I saw many very great designs, but none of them has been chosen. It's ridicilous.

Wow! There are so many good entries that weren't picked I love them all! I wish we could have like all of them... Or at least more than one per gender. Why not, if we like lots of them?

I agree that too many entries look similar to ones we already have. If we're going to get new hairstyles, it would be nice to get something that looks completely different from what is in game. I think the reason why we see so many ones similar to what we have in game is because not everyone is familiar with every single hairstyle in the game so they weren't aware when they drew their style that we had it already.

There are some really great designs in here - I actually scanned through every page. There were quite a few from the Live Letter image that I am disappointed didn't make it into the finals -- I am assuming/hoping they may have already been similar to things that are already in the pipeline?

I personally was hoping someone would submit something similar to the Dancer hairstyle from FFTactics (understood the length would be an issue...):
