I would be perfectly happy if RDM was a magic based close range DPS. if they make it a healer I'm not going to even unlock it
I would be ok with SAM being either tank or DPS

Red Mage as a fire fighter and Samurai as a cowboy.

RDM- dual wielding sword- melee +caster mixed (dd only, no support)
(players would complain too much about dps loss if any support is added /or even used currently, so until they add another party slot for support only then I couldn't count on players to accept them as such or given fair chance as other jobs)
I would prefer a mix of dd + support but individual dps score are seen as the ONLY viable asset/obsession or vote kick, destroys that being realistic atm. ..just my view.
SAM - pure dd oh yeah!
♥ MORE HIGH HEELS + INSTANCED HOUSING! ♥!

Realistically speaking, you can get away with RDM having utility partly via native skills and partly via cross-class skills. A DPS with access to Stoneskin (CNJ) and Sleep (THM) could be pretty useful, for example. Having a damage reduction cooldown that is usable on others (picture a RDM during A4, seeing that one of the healers has taken big damage just as the Judgement Nisi phase starts; RDM pops Phalanx on that healer, reducing damage healer takes by 25% for 10 seconds), would be helpful. Probably wouldn't deal DRG-level DPS, but I'd see it going toe to toe with NIN in DPS potential.RDM- dual wielding sword- melee +caster mixed (dd only, no support)

* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
dps and a (support)caster wouldn't be too far fetched, a 3rd str based dps or 3rd int based caster class would fit the current method of class variety implementation.
we have 3 tanks, 3 healers, 3 dex based dps, 2 str base dps, 2 int based casters.
Mr.Y-P mentioned that Samurai was on the table when they were deciding on what would be the 3rd Tank class, it was between SAM and DRK, but DRK obviously fits very well with domestic lore.
SAM would probably be Doma's Tank class, more refugees from Doma coming in a future patch maybe? We haven't seen any probably because they are holding the line so that more Doman can escape persecution from Garlean. We've already been introduced to their scouts (Ninja).
For a potential 3rd INT based caster, i would like to see something completely original for FFXIV, because this game deserves one.

You know... I really hope they make Samurai into a DPS... Make it use Dexterity too, because that Yasha Dogi of Aiming was made for Samurai... Just give the Job a Bow and that makes sense...
What? Giving Samurai a bow makes no sense? Shut your face, it makes perfect sense! Just make the Bow similar to Paladins Shields and give the Job a way to stance dance between Katana and Bow. Although given Bard still doesn't have an off-hand Harp (or other instrument), I should probably give up on that dream. Hope Red/Blue Mage can at least buck the trend and be fairly unique as a melee and mage, but I suspect we'll continue to get the same type of Jobs beside that... Christ, they even fudged up Ninjas duel wielding... Same as Monk and auto-attacks are a single hit, rather than two... It's purely cosmetic, rather than a functionally different (and interesting) Job mechanic...

Red mage caster/melee hybrid with healing woven into attacks. For example %damage done converted to heals on you and 1 other
I would be happy if RDM was a melee magic caster that wielded a Rapier and primarily focused on magic enhancement spells such as En-spells, Doublecast, Haste, Bravery, Faith, Veil. The En-spells could act like the AST stances where they alter the effects of an ability. So if you have Enfire your 3-hit combo applies a dot, Enthunder a stun, Enfrost a slow, Enwater makes it an aoe. I think they could use offensive water spells in general, since water element is almost exclusively healing spells atm.

Samurai's were bowman Historically before anything else. You know... I really hope they make Samurai into a DPS... Make it use Dexterity too, because that Yasha Dogi of Aiming was made for Samurai... Just give the Job a Bow and that makes sense...
