Not gonna respond anymore after this, but you have yet to actually show me where people are trying to insult the artists or their artistic ability itself. People here and through out the forum, do not like the styles being used. That's it, period. I'm sorry you seem to be sensitive towards what everyone is saying in this thread, but trying to paint it as "Everyone is insulting all the finalists by expressing their opinions" seems like it is the topic at hand that lacks the actual tact.

I'm sorry if you really don't see that these kinds of comments as insulting the people's work or them themselves. People are free to say what they want, how they want, but at least don't hide behind some notion that this isn't criticizing and insulting.

I didn't post what I posted to start a fight but you're taking it to that level by being so hostile, so let's please drop this now and let what I said stand and your opinion can stand too. I am only giving a view from my side, which is that as one of the finalists it is damn hard to wade through these constant disgusted comments with what myself and other people created and submitted. It sucks. That is all.

I'm sorry you "think" I'm being hostile, but I'm actually far from it, I'm actually in a fairly good mood today. Honestly I'm so confused, how people can tell what my mood is through my text XD, Seriously though, I'm confused. That is the feeling I am atm.

I'm confused as to how anyone can actually try to say those are insults towards the artists or their artistic ability, even one of the "quotes" you have up there, says "the male hairstyles are pretty garbage" "the male hairstyles..." meaning they simply do not like the style being used. This is peoples characters, if they do not think it will look good on their character, they have every right to voice their opinion about it. This is the first time we've ever had a contest like this in FFXIV:ARR/HW. This is something fairly new for most of the community.

And to be honest, your the one trying to start something, what it is, I'm not 100% clear on, but I won't be responding to you either anymore. Maybe when the topics are a bit more clear, I would resume conversation with you. I'm not out to hurt or insult anyone at all, but I feel that you trying to say others are insulting others, when clearly it is shown they are not, just isn't right and doesn't sit well with me. Simply put, you're taking peoples opinions way out of context.

I don't like pop music. I think it's boring and uninspiring. Did I just insult Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Britney Spears? No. I expressed my opinion on a genre of music. There are millions of people who disagree with me. That is fine. We are all different human beings with different tastes. Disliking a hairstyle does not mean disliking a person.

Savvy, you obviously worked hard on your entry and you should be proud that you were in the finals. I may not have liked your entry, but that doesn't mean I think you as a person are awful, a terrible hair designer, or deserve to be publicly flogged. In fact, quite the opposite. Showing your passion for your entry has earned you my respect.

Let me make it clear that I do not feel personally attacked or victimized by people's colorful dislike of what ended up in the finals. I am only and was only agreeing that as one of the finalists, it is awful to see the constant disgust with what we submitted, without any tact as to what should and shouldn't be said about them. I don't think it's an attack on the person that we are, or our skill at drawing, or our skill as a designer. I think people have been insulting to those that made it into the finals by constantly and repeatedly saying they're boring or ugly, or garbage or trash.

We're not talking about a genre of music here, or a genre of game, or anything so broad. But if you want to put into musical terms, it's like taking 25 indie artists songs that they worked hard on writing and recording, and telling them over and over how garbage their song is, how ugly their voice is, how everyone else could sing it better and write it better. Is that not insulting either?

I do agree that some of the wording and way people on these threads chose to show their discontent with the contest results lacked in taste. But I think we're all misinterpreting the real reason for unrest; which is lack of variety in the finalists, and the iffy way the finalists seemed to be chosen. The latter being made clear when a plagiarist took the spot of someone who worked equally as hard as the next person who may have deserved a chance at the final bracket. Whether personal taste is involved or not, there were multiple repeated styles in the finalists (this is NOT saying they're bad, only popular, and therefore, sure, maybe one side ponytail option should have been in the running, but then give other styles a chance too.)

I do congratulate you and do not mean to take away from your joy, or the joy of any other finalist. I do, however, have the right to wish for more diversity, and even maybe a bigger pool of finalists than 25 per category.

Edit:Also, I'd like to add showing disappointment is not the same as dislike. I can't speak for everyone, but being disappointed with the results does not mean I hate and despise all the styles in the finals, nor does it mean I begrudge the artists. Will I use any of them? Probably not. But again, this is no way a means to slight or attack the finalists in any way. It is merely a disappointment to see how the contest was handled with the amount of potential it had.

Exactly, this contest isn't about anyone's artistic view or talent but instead what kind of hairstyles people who made the designs and people who are able to vote for them would like to see in game and on their characters.

Personally, I do find it a bit strange that in all designs that made it to the finals I only found one that I kind of liked (but wouldn't use) while many designs I would definitely have voted for and could have used have been posted in this thread. I think it tells that certain kind of styles were favoured over others when picking the finalists.

Nobody is trying to stifle your opinions, or start a "witch hunt", I'm saying you could have worded your opinions in a way that wasn't directly insulting what other people worked on and probably thought were awesome when they submitted them!

So if none of the hairstyles suit my particular tastes (which they don't, I wouldn't wear any of them on my character) and I feel that the selection of finalist hairstyles isn't varied enough (several similar selections and more of the same type that we have currently), please enlighten the rest of us how how you would like us to word our opinions without it being what you would consider "insulting".

The only way that I can see would be to say nothing and I'm sorry but that's not an option for me.

I think you just did. You told me exactly what you felt and you didn't resort to calling it garbage and trash and a waste of space.

You can say what you want and do what you want and I am not silencing anyone by stating how it feels from the other side, only letting you know that it is awful to hear and that I'm upset in general about the way so many people acted about this entire thing.

Edit: I won't be replying anymore, I'd rather this just settle back down into nice looking hairstyles that we all wish made it into the finalists. I know I'd gladly swap out my spot.
