I dunno, Buddy. There's more than one way to insult something beyond just calling it "ugly". If my works were called disappointing or not appealing I would be pretty hurt and offended. I'm not even an artist and I know artists and artistic people in general tend to be super sensitive to poorly worded criticism. You can claim its freedom of opinion all you want, but as I said a little tact goes a long way when you're interacting with another person.
