I feel like I'm probably the only person who was unmoved by that scene. In Izayoi's case, I just pretend whenever there's some emotional event that she has to participate in, she just fakes feeling sad. The way I envisioned my character isn't one that's falling apart at the seams like everybody else envisions their characters to be doing. Izayoi is just fine with all the death around, and fully expects more dead before the very end. Maybe I'm just griping here, but that's why I feel like emotions shouldn't be tied to the cutscene if the protagonist has to participate. Some people, like me or my character, just don't care one way or the other.

Well congratulations, you and your character are officially killer robots.

    /sarcasm

In all honesty, more people than not probably want the Warrior of Light in emotional cutscenes because it shows that they're attached to the world and people in it. Otherwise, what reason have you for doing everything other than for shits and giggles or out of pure survival instinct?

Hey, no need to be snide, I fully acknowledge I'm a terrible person!

In all seriousness, though, you don't need to be attached to the people to fight for your own survival or the survival of the world you live in. Even if you're living solely for yourself, you have to be alive to do that. It's either that or acting solely off the basis of "this is your duty, so see it through." Those are two very viable reasons to not care about the people around you. Sure, normal people develop bonds over time, but it's not always true or always a fact. I actually barely remembered the silver/blue haired Elezen guy up until he was forefront, and even then, it wasn't a major blow to see him die. There was a bit of dissonance there for me personally since, given the very start, emotionlessly killing things seemed like what the character was good at.

I can see the issue of showing the WoL emoting but I feel (me personally, not saying everyone else has to feel this way) that giving the WoL expressions makes them feel more like part of the world and story. An active participant rather than some impassive observer.

The death of Lord Haurchefant is by far the most emoting I've seen the Warrior do so far, of course. Normally all you get is a stoic nod or a brief, sad glance over a shoulder (maybe this is changing now, though, I enjoyed Gale's frequent expressions of total abject confusion in Rising). There have been some people on the forums and in game who were confused, wondering if their WoL was rushing off for romantic evenings with the Lord of Dragonhead while the game was off. In the German version, though, it makes it seem more like your Warrior probably didn't do anything to return the feelings until his final moments....

....N....Nobody read the German version of the Vault scenes. My heart....

Well as we know when Haurchefant lays dying in the English version he says "You...you are unharmed? F-Forgive me... I could not bear the thought of...of... Oh, do not look at me so. A smile better suits a hero..."

In German it's "Odd…We’re finally so close, and yet ...I can hardly feel you… Now, don’t be sad… It doesn’t suit you…my hero…"

It gives the impression that he's been longing to be close to you but hasn't been until that moment. And that moment IS the very first time we see the Warrior of Light touching someone. Touch is usually a big no in this game due to the insane size differences between playable races.

Ahhh, unrequited love. Still, you would think fighting back to back in battle would be enough for the guy! That's as close as it gets!

I'm sure he thought fighting alongside the WoL was....well...splendid! Just splendid!
