Don't forget the sea life. We had what? Gulls, Dolphins, even Whales swimming alongside that boat. Then the Selbina boat had an actual pirate attack... Small details like that are what Final Fantasy XIV is really missing I think... We just talk to a NPC in Limsa and suddenly we're in Thanalan...

You're entirely right here, there is no sense of adventure on XIV. Missions on XI required planning and travelling. Now it's all just instant click

I liked the boat ride, I forgot the area, but it had multiple stops and was literally a tour through the area. Plus you could dig up seashshell's there or something...

It had the best atmosphere and music when it came to the ocean in ffxi.

With a boat, you could also go out for treasurer hunting at sea. Since treasure hunting/maps are already in the game anyway

It'll be a real shame if they don't add boat rides in if we get an expansion similar to Treasures... That boat ride in just fueled excitement for the expansion, Heavensward was fine because we'd had Ishgard staring us in the face since ~Lv30 (although I'd have loved for the Steps of Faith to have been a physical zone we had to walk across... Would have felt like I was actually finally travelling to Ishgard, rather than walking up to the same gate as before and just being there instantly...), but it would be incredibly disappointing to just turn up somewhere we've never seen before, without getting a sneak peak as we sail in... That first boat ride into Whitegate was probably one of the stronger memories I have of Vana'diel, alongside that first Airship journey and seeing the entire map from the skies... XIV has nothing in comparison, the Airship was just a teleport to the next city, it completely cut all the anticipation and excitement out of it...

Weird thing is, they'd be relevant in XIV. Boats were relevant in XI because of fishing, and the odd NM spawning, but all Airships had was some quest where you talk to passengers (think it was similar to the Skinchange GATE)? We have Cloud/Sky fishing in XIV, a fairly short Airship ride wouldn't exactly go to waste with that in mind... I honestly even wonder why Airships are there... If people don't want the ~3 minute ride, they can always just teleport like they probably already do anyway... It's an odd state of affairs when Chocobo Porters are more interesting than flying on an Airship...

Boats though... That should be possible... Don't think I particularly care about those small Boats being given a physical voyage, but there was a ride between Limsa and Thanalan back in 1.0, and I'd love to see that make a return for fishing purposes at least. Airships are a bit harder, since XIVs Airship design is pretty lackluster what with them being tiny as heck. Still shouldn't be too hard to implement, I don't recall Boats/Airships ever being particularly packed in XI anyway.

I'm in one of those moods but I did a google to see if FF14 might get this.

The closest we've got so far is the boat in Costa Del Sol, which one north and one south fishing spot of the boat - but it would be even better if the boat moved or there were timed boat trips. Perhaps, like how different fish are cuaght different times of day, different fish would be caught at different timed trips. Eg, 8am boat trip during clear skies is 9% chance of a rare type, and 11pm boat trip during lightning is another. What I also miss (though for FFXIV it would depend on parties working together) is the chance to fish up a monster. These monsters could drop rare or unique mats if the fisher's party defeats it.
