Normal mode instead of echo and nerf, but the same time they have done coil with echon and nerf.
So the vast majority that isn't doing Savage has nothing to do? No thanks.

If story was all that got you excited (not the challenge) then Savage might not be for you. If you need one to get excited for the other, maybe you don't really want the other thing?

Those two things aren't mutually exclusive. A good story can definitely be a motivator for raiding especially if you don't already know what is coming next (both in terms of story and mechanics). It is much more interesting when you beat a raid for the first time and go into an all new raid rather than going into a raid you know all but 1-2 mechanics in and has severely increased hps/dps checks.

An interest in them both is not the same as NEEDing one for the other.

What's causing players to tire out faster is the constant failures. Most people are not accustomed to unrelenting difficulty and failing for it. Seriously, wiping over and over again is FAR more of a detriment to morale and willpower than anything else that might be lacking. The amount of effort someone puts in per attempt is also a factor. Source: 12 years of MMORPGs and more than half of that raiding current tiered endgame. Now that Savage is seen as the content that people should be doing, thanks mostly due to the top tier gear being there and how things have been in modern MMORPGs, having extremely hard/taxing degrees of difficult content be put in front of them like Alex Savage is causes people to forget "their place" when it comes to how to attack these sorts of things. By that, I mean folks automatically assume that just because the top raid groups can clear it that any schmuck can and is expected to instantly be able to do the same. That these world first folks don't do, think, or play any different than their peers in the raiding world.

Then make so Savage progression isn't locked behind gear, but tuned to the best gear available at the time? Anything else is just artificially extending the time it takes to complete it. You could also make them share the same lockout.

Our static was having major burnout and we were also having crippling net issues (4/8 members, including myself, had to call our ISPs and get techs out to fix things... all in the same week). We took that week off and did Primal EX farming for ponies, we got almost everyone their Kirin mount now and we had a lot of fun just burning through old content and jumping to our deaths for no reason. We regrouped, feeling much better, and downed A2S that night.

Sometimes you just need to take a break from the content. Gearing up is nice and all, but you are spending a significant amount of your time with these 7 other people. Its nice to just do something fun together without the pressure of having to do things correctly. It helps a lot.

Constant wipes has always been part of progression, and I have been with the same group since SCoB. We were all excited about Alexander, and as a group do generally enjoy the learning process. Its just the fights no longer feel exciting as we've done them so many times while gearing.

Savage fights just don't have that new and epic feel to them anymore.

Could it be people are getting burnt out because of taking so much time to raid? I usually get raid burnt after 2, maybe 3 hours of consistent banging my head against something challenging. Proper scheduling will help with that. Self control also helps because if you put too much time into something, you start not to love it anymore.

Not really, since we had almost 6 months where we were waiting for something new and challenging.
