Just use the Mudras you really need.

    1) Huton at start and refresh with armor crush and yep you can stay behind. This one is only for huton so give a crap if you are attacking from the side if it is more dangerous

    2) Kassatsu Raton (1on1) or Kassatsu Doton (more then 3 Monsters)

    3) Trick Attack (1on1) or Refresh Doton (more then 3 Monsters)

    4) Use the Mudra Lags for yourself! How? TP refreshment and aggro reduce.

    5) Refresh your other dots/debuffs (in total 3) if the fight needs it to help out minimise drops cause of mudra lags

With these five rules I was always able to be one of the top DPS in 8 man groups (never was in 24 right now). Of couse I will try it out once again while my server moved to european datacenter but it is a really good compromise between dps and usage.

Oh and finally: Play it to have fun. The NIN is a class with a really good basic DPS even with only the basic combo.

    Edit:
And before haters are incoming: Of course you can improve your DPS more later... first you need to learn how to use the mudra lag for yourself. Then you can try to optimise the usage as it can be hard to focus on two thinks to improve on the same time.

    Simple:
Boss fight -> Having a look to the aggro bar of the group. The more Aggro you have as more DMG you are doing. And I am talking with the use of our 80% Aggro transfer skill every 90 secs....
If you be constantly on place 3 or 4 it is ok to think you deal enough dmg for the group ;D
