Let me remind those of you of the strict rules of entries listed by Square-Enix themselves.

The entry must be of the users OWN and ORIGINAL design.

Think you missed what Colorful's point was.

They were saying it doesn't matter if that hairstyle gets disqualified, because there are likely a ton of other submissions that look nearly identical to it. If this one gets disqualified, 3 more that look exactly the same will take its place. This hairstyle is overused. I can think of several FF characters that already have hair that looks like it off the top of my head.

Regardless all hairstyles that "replace" it should be disqualified as they are not the entrants original work as it is not an original design made up by the entrant as it has been used in another Square Enix game.

While maybe not disqualified, multiple hairstyles that look exactly or almost the same should not be chosen as finalists because there is literally no diversity in the voting.
In the submissions shown I saw at least two sets of 2-3 hairstyles that utilized the same concept.

uhm, the problem is more that they didn't say it was taken from elsewhere - if they did, they'd be disqualified ofc. but now it was considered.
the ppl that ripped it off, should be disqualified from any prize, but it would still be nice to see them added to the game.

Is the originality of the style itself part of the contest? Because one of the female ones pinged me pretty hard as a character from Aquarion (I've seen cosplayers do her loops in braids, and coupled with how similar the bangs/fringe are, it felt a lot like Silvia's hairstyle), and the first twintails pinged me at first as Alicia from Valkyria Chronicles.

Though those are at least fun in that you can cosplay other characters pretty closely in-game. The ones that were ripped from the internet, however, should be disqualified for that alone (not to mention that even if the original creators submitted it to the contest, the rules specified that they couldn't be on the internet).

EDIT: For added hilarity, I saw this comment and image on the FFXIV Reddit. So yeah, coupled with the ripped off entries, I am pretty underwhelmed by the contest entries.

Honestly there is no such thing as original hairstyle.
No matter what you come up with, someone will have invented it before you.
It basically all depends if people recognize from where it was used already.

That doesn't give one the excuse to rip off someone else's creation in a contest specifically asking for personal creations and call it your own. Riff of an existing style or not, if you didn't draw/style it with your own hands it's artistic plagiarism.

If you straight up ripped off a picture from the internet then yes, by all means disqualify.
However, when you thought you came up with something but someone else recognizes it from something else then it gets muddy.

We were always going to get submissions that were blatent copies of existing hairstyles or previous FF characters, and although I'm not saying I'm in favor of it, it would feel passable if theyve at least hand-drawn or computer-drawn the hairstyle themselves.
Also, why are we not disqualifying the ones that have more than two images/photos? It clearly said in the rules ONE picture of front and ONE picture of back only.

just hope none of the winners are one of those cloud hairstyles. i would rather not have a plethora of styles that take an insane amount hairgel to recreate (honestly if i liked some of the other styles miqo'te has, i probably wouldn't use that xiii hairstyle either).
