DoL: Is 650 GP the new 600 GP?

Heya! So I just recently got the red scrip pickaxe and I noticed that adamantite ore stayed at a 95% chance despite having 680+ Gathering.

That said, should we start aiming for 650 GP? I say this so we can add Sharp Vision to our rotations, and improve gathering chance by 10%.

    Thoughts?

stay at 600 if you like a 5% failure rate or go for 650 if you want 5% more success

650 are easy to obtain anyway, current cap is 728 GP

Not worth it in IMHO unless you wanna blow money. I honestly regret putting a single meld into my gatherers since its pretty much worthless. Doesn't effect Collectibility really since the tiers are so high and 2 star materials are pretty much super cheap besides the favor stuff. Plus you can do Favors in Lv55 gatherer gear.

650 is what you want to go for at minimum, yes. That will allow you to get 100% hit while also performing your normal rotations at anything but folklore nodes. For those you would need 700. (but you can make it work with less, you just wont have 100% hit)

There seems to be a 95% maximum for the highest level nodes. This used to be the case for unspoiled nodes from 2.0, but somewhere along the way this cap was eliminated \o/ However, now the cap is imposed upon the highest unspoiled nodes for 3.0 items.

Eh, I think gatherers will do just fine with 600 GP. You can think of 650 GP as being a luxury. Considering the expense of melding that materia, it isn't going to be worth it for a lot of people. You'll be just fine... 95% of the time ;P

In practical terms, it might take me a single extra trip to cap scrips each week with 600 GP compared to if I had 650. Not exactly a huge inconvenience. If you add up the amount of time it might take to stick materia on the 4th or 5th slot to get 650 GP, I'm probably saving time (and definitely saving gil!).

It was more important to have a 100% chance for 2.0 endgame gathering, because you got that 5th item as a guaranteed HQ if you didn't miss any along the way.

I found the extra expense worth it. But, I did not meld to 650 GP. I melded to 639 GP, and would have been just as well off stopping at 629 GP.

The reason is NPC-sold food. Get some food that gives 21 GP, and reach the 650 mark that way. Meld to your food.

Gathering food seems to be decidedly not worthwhile; going up 30ish Gathering on my Miner (bought the RGS tool) did not appreciably raise my gathering chances for things like Adamantite Ore (95% to 96% is not significant). That tells me it would take a LOT of Gathering to reach 100% - more than is available through food, at any rate! Thus using the GP to get that 5% bump instead.

Just to add to that, it takes a little over 2 eorzean hours to regenerate 600 gp, or 1 hour + a cordial. This allows you to do nodes back-to-back. Adding in the extra time to generate that extra 50 gp and you won't be able to fit quite as many in. It would still be nice to have the option when starting out fully regenerated, but like I said, more of a luxury than a clear practical advantage.

650 wasn't even that hard to get @ 50 cap with food from an npc.

It's always been that your maximum gathering rate is 100 - (item level - character level) - 5. So Level 60 items are capped at 95%, while level 59 items will reach 96%, and so on. It's the same while leveling up. If you're gathering something at your own level 95% is the best you can get and if it's above your level it drops further.

With enough gathering you should be able to get everything up to 95% and then drop 50 GP to hit 100%. It shouldn't be too difficult to get there, but you'll either need food or mostly crafted gear to get more GP on the left side.

More GP actually makes it easier to do nodes back to back as you will have more GP left after your first node.
And, I'm sorry if it wasnt clear in my previous post, but it isnt currently possible to hit 95% on Folklore nodes without fully maxed gathering. (red scrips+ crafted+ melded+ food) And I'm not 100% if it's possible even then.

Anything below that is fairly easily done now. But I would still advice going for 650 GP with cheap food or otherwise. 95%-99% misses on collectibles happen a lot more often then you would think.

This is especially problematic if it happens with a lv60 hidden item from an ephemeral.
