It is petty to actively block someone from options of customization because it may threaten a person's real or imagined sense of exclusivity or in the case of some posts outright blatant and outrageous claims of virtue and sole reason for this game existing. (Without even discussing alternative compromise options- some people just come in and blast the OP with self righteous nonsense)

People with the marking are not blocking anything. SE set the conditions behind getting it, many players do not meet these conditions. It is not an imagined sense of exclusivity, it literally is exclusivity and that is how it was designed.

Other options have been presented in this thread...and let us not pretend that SE doesn't make or unmake rules/conditions/terms as they see fit.
"SE said so" is not an excuse... SE can unsay or change whatever they want.... or are we all going to pretend that everything SE has said has been true, done as it was claimed, or never changed?
Really?

None of which I (and many) agree with, the only thing I can agree with is more tattoo options in general. What was designed and advertised as exclusive, should remain exclusive. But if players want other tattoos, they should have that option.

I think that is a pretty good solution, though - don't you? Tattoo options... one tattoo design is the legacy locked design, but there are lots of others to choose from.
Lord knows I wouldn't choose the fugly legacy one, anyway!

I can agree with a selection of tattoos being made available, there is nothing unreasonable about that.

All completely irrelevant. I've never understood the point of arguing this.
SE could change a lot of things, in theory. They could decide to go F2P, put all but the most basic content behind a cash shop, and then say "This is our new direction. Please look forward to it!". They could decide to bring back some of the concepts that Tanaka had for 1.0 and people hated (Market Wards and XP Fatigue yeah!). They could decide to do away with all raiding and make everything smaller group content, or better yet.. make it all soloable. They could do this... They could do that...
Whether SE could do something is not - in any way, shape or form - an argument of why they should, nor is it any kind of proof that they will.
Pointing out "well they've changed their stance on things before" is irrelevant as well. Different situations, different circumstances, different contexts. ANd of course, that they've changed their minds on other things is not, ever, an argument that they should do so again.
1.0 is done. The events that transpired are history, and those whom were there and went through it were given a mark, indicative of being branded by Hydaelyn while in a 'stasis', and in a more meta sense, distinguishes those who were around when the Calamity happened.
It would be absolutely wrong for SE to suddenly say "oh, well, we've already well-written the Mark into the lore and the world's history, not to mention actual "living" Adventurers who were around to experience it,and survived it (thanks to Louisoix's interference). We've already long-since decided it was branded on them during the events of the Calamity, when they were whisked away to safety for 5 years, until it was safe for them to return. We already decided, and announced, multiple times, way back in 2012, that the mark (as it would turn out to be) would be something specifically to distinguish those who were there and "lived" through it. Bah. Forget everything we said. Forget all the promises we made to those people while they were supporting us and a broken game. We're doing fine now, so screw them and screw all that. Forget all that other stuff. Everyone's a Calamity survivor now! Even those who didn't even exist yet when it happened!"
SE could do that, in theory.
Just, don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen.

You're right, however, the legacy tattoo is not a feasible option of customization. It simply is not available and will not be available ever again.
Really, the OP got blasted because he outright openly insulted the entire legacy cluster saying "He did not care" how they felt and just because he wanted it, it should happen. That isn't realistic. Also, it is a fact that without the 1.0 supporters, 2.0 wouldn't have been created. SE has openly confirmed this via the Legacy Campaign as a thank you.
Edit: And yes, SE COULD change it whenever they want. But for a successful business, they need to weigh if its worth insulting a block of the fanbase just to make a small portion happy. Is it worth the risk? Logic dictates: No.
