The last thing I want is my AF2 gear gated behind hunts.
You didn't learn when the law upgrades were gated behind them?

@Nalien
Upgrade items locked behind A/S ranks.
F that. Hard enough to get credit for those as it is. Hunts are in a bad way right now, I'd prefer they remain mostly pointless.
As for current treasure maps... Locked behind gathering or market board. No thanks there either.

It didn't even have to be a quest grind. Just some story to go with it, something that made it feel like it was an important part of the job. True, something like the Ninja AF was just the guy ordering it and it getting stolen, but even that was about confirming that "Hey, you're really one of us now." I just feel like they could have made it more important.I think we're forgetting something that alot of people are hating about Heavensward right now... quests. It's FULL of them. I literally lost count of how many I've done just in getting to level 60, and that's with me having skipped the ones between level 57-60 because of dungeon grinding for gear. The disgruntlement of having to do more just for AF2 would have been palpable. I do think the tomes vendor wasn't the best choice but at least it doesn't play into the growing unhappiness that is the quest grind.
I totally agree, OP. I don't want it to be even more of a pain to get, unlike how this thread went, but I miss the story and lore behind the set like there was behind the 50 one. These new sets look cool and are often a natural extension of the 50 ones, but I wanna know more about them and would love to get them in a way that wasn't buying something that's just lying around and Rowena got her hands on somehow.

It would have been nice if the Esoterics were locked behind quests or maps or something... Anything to make it more interesting than the newest tomestone gear grind.
<___< They don't much feel like AF2 anyway because some of them have stats that you would never want on your job. The SCH one comes to mind since most of it can't even be worn and your book makes you look at SMNs with envy.

You mean like AF and AF+1 were? Seriously, AF was only the best in 1.0 and that was because of the special bonuses they granted for Job actions. Well, most of the pieces granted, there was always one piece that was just stats that you could easily do without in favor of a melded replacement (Darklight was class-only then). In 2.0 the AF was marginally better due to the special bonuses having gone the way of Dalamud. AF+1 (the recolored AF in case you were wondering) was also just slightly better than average with Coil able to fill in where the stats were lacking. Even now, with AF2, there's really no reason to get the whole set because of stats.

just a random idea: why dont NPC tallk with you differently when you wear AF or AF2 ?

I thinks is because of the way we had to get it. Artifact gear should have been quest loot and not bought through tomes.

My question is: why is the DRK AF gear not Fray's gear but Fray's gear is instead crafted general tank gear that the other 2 tanks can wear...you'd think the NPC who is the sole DRK besides yourself directing the quests would be wearing your AF gear.
