Of course there will be people that will pay for the game even if the market system is not sorted, how many is that, 100, 1000 ? I thought SE wanted to target this game at the mass MMO market. An obscure, unflexible and unfriendly market system is really not the way to do it. Keep your market wards as they are for those few that swear by them, and then add an AH on the side that's totally separate and independent to the wards to please the majority of players. And then watch the MW die naturally...I'm sorry, but your wrong... There will be ppl that will pay for the game with the market ward system (Granted it gets a better search and mark feature) and there are other MMO's without a AH (Megaten and Guild Wars).
You quoted 2 F2P games with no AH, grats, I can quote you a few dozens of those if you want, they are irrelevant to this argument, FFXIV is intended as a subscription game, as such is in a different league and I have different expectations.
Guild wars was a well played game in its prime... sad to say its declined... But your clearly saying a F2P game isn't of the same standards of a P2P game... That said... I'm sure you'll say Guild wars 2 wont hold a candle to any P2P game... being a P2P game doesn't make it better... and the fact you find the Market Ward system unfriendly is purely your opinion... and I can see why a lot of people are complaining about it. I agree having an actual Auction House would save time and make things smoother but you wont get an auction house until SE has tried their way... The only real difference between the two is the Auction House having a better search function and not having to zone to get your item.
I am not against an Auction House, Nor am i against the Market Wards... I like the Market Wards... they are a great idea... imo the only thing they need it a better Search & Buy feature to help obtain items... I'm Aware there is people defending the Market wards and demanding an Auction house.. but in my eyes the Auction House is clearly the more valuable economic tool, It's a much faster and easier system to use.
TLDR?
An Auction house is a much faster and easier system to use, but the market wards only need a few changes to be a valuable tool to sell and buy items.
This amazes me. People do not want to walk for 2 seconds to get gear in the MW but they want a 10 min airship ride and want anima gone? it makes no sense. Its clear to me that if its not like ff11 people do not want it..... sad.

It's called people dont know what they want in a game.
i was really hoping that when they announced companies, that they would be complex establishments in further advancing the market wards. i still really hope that they create a complex economy in this game, by maybe making an interactive system behind the scenes of the economy in which dol/h's are encouraged to make a decent market ward where they are rewarded with better retainers and better stalls etc etc.
I cannot believe that this thread is still active. If you read what has been and NOT been written by Yoshi-P and the Dev team you would come to the stark realization that they wil not be introducing an AH now or anytime in the forseeable future. For the past 6 months or more there has been absolutely no mention of an AH. Everything posted by the De v team has been solely about improvements to the Market system. At this point in time they are probably so far along in their developement that working on an AH would be a waste of valuable time and resources. Everyone should accept this fact and make constructive recommendations on how to optimize the Market Wards. I would also respectfully recommend to Yoshi-P they he provide us with a definitive answer concerning the AH concept in FFXIV.
Actually Yoshida said in his letters he was going to look into an AH at some point, but he has other priorities now.
It wasn't. Somebody brought it back and now it's active... I love the speculation personally because I can see the dev team going either way, sticking to the market wards forever or eventually adding an AH. I still don't see why we can't have both.
