I’m not going to say that there aren’t people who believe that the Legacy Tattoo, Goobbue and Chocobo are their reward for “suffering through 1.x”, because i’m sure that there are people who think that way. I’m also sure that there are people who simply paid for 90 days worth of Subscription fee during the Legacy Campaign period, just to get the Legacy Tattoo, Goobbue and Chocobo.

But, if they really believe that the tattoo is a “reward” for “suffering through 1.x”, then they are going about it all wrong and never had any love for or faith in the game nor the team behind it.

Final Fantasy XIV was in a dire state after it’s initial release in the Autumn of 2010. The game was nowhere near finished when it was released back then and everyone knew it. Even the team behind the game knew it and when they saw that flocks of players were leaving the game within the first month of it’s release, they canceled the subscription fees as an apology while trying to fix the game to a playable state.

At the end of 2010, Naoki Yoshida took the wheel as Producer and Director of Final Fantasy XIV and aimed for something that was unheard of in the gaming industry. He wanted to rebuild Final Fantasy XIV from the ground up and turn it into something that worth the Final Fantasy name.

However, it was not so much the fact that he wanted to rebuild the game that was unheard of, but the way he went about it that was. Not only did he not take down the game so that they could go back to the drawing board and start over… He kept the game online, having the team creating systems and content for the original game while developing an entirely new game in a timespan of 2 years. This new game is what later became know as “A Realm Reborn”.

It was the promise, effort, love, faith and dedication that Naoki Yoshida and the Final Fantasy XIV team had for the game that they gained the support from its player base. Without the support from these players, we wouldn’t have even seen the birth of a game we all love or hate in the first place.

Due to this, Yoshida-san and the PR team created the Legacy Campaign as a big “Thank you” for the support they have received over the years and making “A Realm Reborn” possible. The Legacy Tattoo is not a “Reward”. No, it’s a “Gift” in thanks for the support they’ve received when they needed it the most.

You cannot place a price tag on something that has such a significant meaning to Naoki Yoshida, the Final Fantasy XIV team or the people that genuinely supported them at their time of need.

What this man and his team has achieved in those 2 years is astounding and praiseworthy. The Legacy Tattoo is a symbol of gratitude from them. Don’t devalue that to a cash shop item.
