Oh, my bad. I got confused because the previous poster mentioned "gear that levels with you" in there description of artifact gear. Yeah, I confused what they were talking about for the heirloom gear.

I think it would be a bit impossible for FFXIV to get away from the WoW mindset because casual gaming = more profit. If you change things up to make the game more challenging and really include penalties for decisions made in game, well then we'll start getting somewhere.

Nope, that's not it at all.I don't know if you've seen Blizzard's Q2 report for 2015. They are down to 5.6m subs for WoW - it had peaked above 10m from the new expansion and less than a year later.. almost half the players are gone.
Part of the reason they are losing subs is from extreme gating of content.

The life cycle of the MMORPG is that the "plateau" gets shorter and shorter.
So a game has an initial spike in popularity, plateaus, and then nose-dives. WoW plateaued in 2007. WoW is actually nearing the "nosedive off a cliff" point because they aren't releasing expansion content fast enough to hold the plateau up. Or in other words the content is now so easy that nobody has any reason to subscribe longer than it takes to complete the content.

I'm pretty sure people are quitting wow because they get one content patch a year which consist of one raid and daily quests.
Hand me everything going for free like wow or you'll fail like wow...good logic.
WoW isn't releasing massive content in their expansions anymore so people are leaving.

WoW lost it's mojo after Wrath. They simply haven't put out any single piece of content better than Ulduar, and even Icecrown was subpar. The downward spiral continued, and I knew it was only a matter of time when we started seeing farming simulator elements in Mists.
Now, with Garrisons, it's gone full Farmville and transformed from a serious MMO into a single-player social game.
FFXIV is what WoW should've continued to try to be after Wrath.

have main story off realm reborn ffxiv team kept dish out yummy help of contents. people afraid that because they saw 2 end game dungeon ffxiv would doing what blizzard did. forget that yoshi p stress how important it is to dish out those yummy of content for they players when he brought ffxiv back for the grave
I just logged in, turned in 40 pieces of battered fish and completed the festival. I feel so gated....

I like remind folks the ffxiv heavenward launch 2 months ago these last few months are video games conversion so that the dev team has to be different place sometime. the fact heavenwards launch with out beta test period was mistake yet they work to correct the bugged in the games. i argue that an expansion isn't just the expansion to the game it content that follow the expansion to the game as well. remember the devs are human beings so they need be treat like human being and give respect sometimes
