FFXIV 2nd expansion: Viera-like race still a possibility?

I find the homogeneity of the game's races to be an unattractive quality. I'm not sure if I'd play a fierce race myself (they're usually hit or miss for me depending on design), but I'd still love to see them in game, even if only occasionally. I like diversity, it spices the game up. I'm sure others feel the same, even if they wouldn't play fierce races themselves.

Yeah that's always one issue, everyone always like "Roegadyn aren't popular so no." That doesn't mean the right answer is "Never make a race with tough women", it might be that they just didn't hit the right sorta tough woman.. Which for all we know might be one that's a Demi beast(wo)man that doesn't look like their scales are some weird jewelry.

The dissonance of the two bolded statements is where the problem comes from: You can not expect people to play something you will not.

If the deve team can't make enough players say "I want to play that race!" then it is in many ways wasted effort to create that race as a PC race.

I would not mind seeing a new taller fierce Tiger/Lion-esque subrace of Miqo'te and would seriously consider using one of my Fantasia to change subrace if I liked the look.

I think a sexual dimorphism flipped small cute male/large amazon female tribe of Au'Ra would be nice, but do not know haw many players would be willing to play a female.

You might end up surprised though. I did not think that many people were going to be switching to au ra come the xpac. But now I see them all over the place, granted it's almost always the females, but I genuinely did not think they'd be as numerous as they are.

Nice! Thanks for linking that. I had the thought of a canine race in mind as well but I was trying to imagine it in the Final Fantasy setting. I definitely think the game needs a race in the vein of these but I hope they're careful the lore doesn't make them too much like WoW's Worgen race.

Statements on the forums about swapping to Au'Ra were very common. That combined with new flavor of the month left me far from surprised on the number of Au'Ra.

The very same thing could happen with any new race they add. I believe that the free Fantasia players got from their HW pre-orders encouraged that to.

Kind of like here... Does anyone actually play anything but a catgirl in this game? First game with elves in it I've ever seen where they are actually unpopular...

I think they could do it but I can see why they're hesitant about it. It'd take a lot of man-hours to go through and redesign much of the armor and lore to make em fit into Final Fantasy without looking too much like Worgens. That's not even taking into account all the work that'd have to be done on emotes, voices, and the billion other things I'm missing. I'd still be down for playing as a Beastman though - right now everyone seems pretty generic (except for Lalafells and Roes imo).
