it depends on what your current gearset is when you get your first piece. for me i had yet to upgrade my law chest and a hive weapon, so eso chest was an obvious choice. even then regardless of what you get first (chest, or weapon) you'll be able to afford one or the other in a week or two after you get you first one. (with chest 450x2-825+450x2. with weapon 450x3-960+450. in both instances you end up with the same amount on week 5).

your right probably, i can't find any helmets that go good with this chest piece. i170 chest piece looked terrible, but at least i could glamour pvp gear over it, i like the look of the eso chest too much :x

Even in terms of tankiness the chest isn't really superior to the weapon. You only gain a bit more VIT if you upgrade from the 180 chest to the 200 one instead of upgrading from Hive weapon to eso weapon. And the gain in def/mdef is laughable.

Weapon is the biggest upgrade and the first everyone should buy. The increase in DPS is real and you still gain VIT too. As a tank you're still a damage dealing job, hitting things 100% of the time, like a DPS. Buying the weapon benefits more to your entire party than buying the chestpiece.

Of course, to build on this, the other thing to keep in mind is that the topic is asking about how to increase DPS in which case yes, the weapon is the obvious choice. I myself have full Alexander NM gear and the Hive Weapon so it really didn't matter what to upgrade first iLevel-wise -- So I went with the weapon to help with DPS checks, kill dudes easier in PvP, and because part of DRK's perks is being able to do more damage while in tank stance than the other two tanks.

I haven't parsed on a training dummy, but I usually go:

Salted Earth (on the approach) ---> Dark Arts ---> Scourge ---> Blood Weapon ---> Power Slash ---> Carve and Spit ---> Syphon Strike ---> Dark Arts ---> Souleater ---> Plunge ---> Power Slash ---> Dark Passenger ---> Syphon Strike ---> Dark Arts ---> Souleater ---> Low Blows etc.

Or something like that, I don't have it memorized completely. I should probably start looking at double-stacking the OGCs instead of just doing one in between GCD's. Old habits from level 50 DRG die hard, I guess.

What you're probably seeing is inflation from Salted Earth and Dark Passenger hitting the adds. I get a similar number, but I look up Faust's incoming damage by combatant to get my real dps. It's usually around 950 or so once you take out all the fluff. And yes I'm on Behemoth haha
