Housing Availability Issues

I am a bit concerned with the current status of Housing in FFXIV. As it stands, on many servers all housing wards are full and show very little sign of that changing anytime soon. To this extent I have a few suggestions that may clear up space in housing areas so that players who do not have a house may be able to get one. (These are not all inclusive but separate possibilities)

1. Limit housing purchases to 1 per account. NOT per character.

2. Revoke housing from inactive/unpaid accounts.

3. Perhaps implement a REAL personal housing area like was originally planned?

The first 2 suggestions are realistic and I believe would be easy enough to implement. The final is just wishful thinking. I know I would love to have a house of my own but there are many greedy people who have multiple or that are just not used anymore. Hopefully something will be done to accommodate more players.

Right now on Zodiark there is one available land plot (medium) in the Goblet for just shy of 18 million gil. I would expect that from a large plot but medium? No. In fact, my FC has a large manor house and the leaders paid 20 million. It's prices like these that drive people towards gil sellers :/

I do like the idea of revoking housing from inactive accounts though. I've lost count of how many plots in the housing wards that I've seen which have been bought but never used. There's never been a house created... its just an empty plot.

Something seriously needs to be done.

I think I'm not speaking only for myself here when I say that free company housing is something essential to the game play. We expect that there are enough plots per world for purchase. Many of my friends, myself included, feel frustrated and very disappointed when this demand is not met. At this time and date the only option left for a free company who desires a house, is to jump worlds, and that hardly seems like an acceptable solution to anything.

All suggestions above are very good to solving this issue, but I would go as far as suggesting that personal housing be completely removed, and I know that is not realistic and it sounds crazy, I just think the personal housing should never have been an option. How could Square Enix even think that there would be enough space, the math just doesn't ad up.

I just hope and wish that Square Enix will take this issue seriously and start searching for a solution as soon as possible.

I've recently gotten into the game, and was reading about some of the housing features. I was really excited about this until I started looking into it and realized housing is not even something I can aspire to at this point, which is a shame. Seeing they added features to the housing system in the expansion without adding capacity blows my mind.

Has there been any response to this? I've had a hard time finding any information on plans for the future, or if this seemingly awesome feature which they've worked hard to make special will be expanded to the point where an average player can hope to see the content.

They are taking it seriously. That's why we saw them double the land obtainable a while back. They have said they are working on adding more land when it's possible, but doing this requires a LOT of server space. We're not talking about MBs or even GBs. We're talking about probably hundreds, if not thousands of TBs worth of data that has to have a place to be physically stored. This means more leased space for servers, more coding to be done, hardware to be purchased. It's a lot of money. I want my own personal house. Like a LOT, but I'm patient enough and understanding enough to know that there's a lot of things to be considered from a business standpoint, first and foremost.

I know a game (starting with R) that allowed every person to have their own house. sure the graphics are shitty in this game, but what is it that's so different from final fantasy XIV, that the other game can have literally millions of houses, and final fantasy xiv cannot.

Lower graphics means less space being used on their servers, so there's more room for housing data.. That's the difference, storage space. As I said in my previous response to this thread - If you want EVERY person at the moment to have a house, you're talking about TERABITES worth of data being added. Not megabytes. Not gigabytes. Terabytes. Possibly even more given the amount of code that goes into each plot of land. They do this, and suddenly we're paying 20-25$/month instead of 15 just to cover the leasing on the added space they will need for servers.
