This is NOT A "PVP IS DEAD" Thread!

So WoW's PvP is getting a huge overhaul. I don't play but my friend has played both FF and WoW's PvP and when I said I wanted to get into FF's PvP he said it's dead and awful (not even compared to WoW's pvp).

Is the PvP REALLY that bad? And whatever happened to the massive Guild VS Guild stuff where you could summon primals that was planned back in 1.0?

    Remember this image?

I know this sounds like another QQ thread but I love this game to death but never tried PvP but love PvP in other games. . .

    Discuss away please!

The biggest obstacle to getting more of my friends into PvP is the queue times. Even DPS take one look and nope nope nope right out of there.

edit: And, of course, GC limitations severely restrict who I can play with in the first place.

Seal Rock is pretty active right now if you want to try it. It'll slow down (a lot) with time.

I have always wondered after we got 3 GC pvp. Is that picture a 3 way fight? The castle being attacked on both sides? Also consider anything 1.0 was probably dropped when that team leader was replaced.

They have to convince enough of the player base to do it, probably before it gets more manpower. And they seem to refuse to make it more accessible.

Guild Wars 2 employs something similar. Would be cool to have an FF14 version.

wow pvp was good, swtor was fun as hell but i'm disliking ff14 pvp for multiple reasons such as:

    1) the gear grind for 180 is ridiculous for new players.
    2) there are too many people in each group. 1 group is good enough and more personal.
    3) 1v1v1 does not work. it always ends in 2v1 or 1v1 and the other just has a free win.
    4) one heal removes all my hard work after popping all my cool-downs is just a devastating feeling.
    5) maps should focus more on fast objective based game-play.
    6) Iv'e never did wolves den but apparently you must follow the 1 healer 2 dps 1 tank group and that not only is 4v4 the only option but we must follow that group team setup.
    7) pvp skills add 8 more skills on my already full hotbars.

honestly the simple modes of capture the flag and capture the always present points 1v1 with 8 players on each team is the best way to go.

PvP is fun but has MASSIVE problems. Here are a few:

    1. Limited game modes and maps. ATM, seize is the only one that gets ques, so there's really only one.
2.LVL grinding SUCKS. Exp bonuses are inconsistent and meager, and there's NO ways to boost exp in game. You are NOT rewarded for playing well which means you have no incentive to play better. Some people go AFK at the start of matches.
3.GC's restrict matchmaking and cause strife in game. A lot of matches turn into grudge matches.
4.PvP gives tome bonuses for winning. You get this bonus regardless of result, so you get a lot of players who either don't understand or care about the objectives, and just fight... and die, costing your team a lot of points.

PvP is really fun in this game, but it could use more depth and thought over some of these issues. Poor planning is the reason why the lobbies die so quickly after new content comes out.

SE is realy unexperienced in making pvp, so we have not a realy choice of maps, but it have more potential than WoW, Aion,Tera or other weak games, if SE will learn what the pvp players want.

Becaus of the 2s + global cooldown timer, you have enought time to combine skills and check the enemy.

I do not like, that you need addons in WoW to be better than the enemy in WoW arena battles and you have to know all skills from enemy and be faster than 0,5 s to counter or break some skills.

My opinion, if SE will create more pvp maps and systems ( 1vs1 - 8vs8), than other players will change to ff.

The last thing we need is more "massive" pvp maps.
Every time they release one 72man 3-way map it's at best decentish/bearable and at worse a huge mess of epic proportions (i'm looking at you slaughter). But it is always a messy zergfest.

Why do they keep on releasing huge 3-way maps, which just leave the last ones empty and unplayed, when it's so much SIMPLER and easier to balance a 2-way small scale one (8v8 for example). Who in the hell do they have on their PvP team, that no one there can see something SO OBVIOUS.

If they released small scale maps they could also have low level queues, again like pretty much any other popular mmo with decent pvp, and people could lvl through that as there are a lot of mmo players that like to lvl up like this instead this playersy are completely turned off by the lack of it ( not that the bad word of mouth about this game's pvp doesn't do the job on it's own anyway).

So yeah, if someone in SE actually bothers to come to the PvP forums for a change: STOP! Simplify! There's a reason other MMOs don't just pump out large scale maps one after the other. And for the love of god let the stupid gc restrictions die already.

That's not 1.0 concept art, 1.0 had no concept for PvP as far as I remember... That picture first showed up after Yoshida took over and set about rebuilding the game. Specifically there was a series of slides along the lines of "This is what we'll do for 1.0 while we work on 2.0" and "This is what we hope to achieve in 2.0", this art work and some bullet points about PvP being on the later. Though there were also plenty of other forgotten things; A set of dungeons that included Disciples of Land in some way, Hamlet Defense and Chocobo Escorts being revamped, Dragon Battles of Ishgard (which they never gave much information on, by sounded like Besieged from FFXI to me, sad to see it not in Heavensward...). Heck, eventually we're meant to be able to summon Primals properly as Free Companies, that isn't even something that's been forgotten, they bring it back up every year or so... All concepts that came up in 1.0, but they came up with "This is what we have planned for 2.0". Really is quite disappointing to think back on all those concepts and instead see them opt for "Lets have more dungeon farming for tomestones!"...
