I will eat a car if Thrall dies. And it's all speculation right now, but it's hinted that both Tirion and/or Thrall will bite the bullet and the players will be there when it happens, thus allowing us to obtain their weapons (I have a very hard time believing that Tirion and Thrall would just hand over their iconic weapons after so long, Thrall maybe as he has children but not Tirion). That alone gives an edge to WoW, putting actual story and lore into each weapon. Each class gets their own quest for the weapon.
Is that too much to ask for here? Some actual story and lore behind these weapons, because the only legendary thing about ARR relics were that they were a legendary bore!
I told myself I will be patient with the new relic and see what it has to offer. I liked the original up to the beginning of the Zodiac Saga. I can even play devil's advocate for the Atma/Animus phases. But from Novus on, it became quite the disappointment. Almost an insult.
If the new relic shifts from a challenge/skill based objective (even if it isn't a very particularly challenging or requires a lot of skill) to a crafting hybrid/gil sink/artificial grind carrot, I will dump it quick and forever wash my hands of relics permanently.
Theyve already said it would be time consuming so... Hive and Gordian weapon is your skill based objective. So if that's what you want, you don't need to wait for 3.1 you can do that now. A new ex primal with a lvl 200 weapon in 3.1 doesn't sound like a terrible idea though. If the new relic shifts from a challenge/skill based objective (even if it isn't a very particularly challenging or requires a lot of skill) to a crafting hybrid/gil sink/artificial grind carrot, I will dump it quick and forever wash my hands of relics permanently.

I'm not crazy about the fact they tossed the original on the scrap heap, so if they don't take all that work into consideration in some manner come the next phase, that's one little hamster treadmill I'll be avoiding. It's not just relics, though, they should have also allowed upgrades paths for lucis tools. Not thrilled to find 2 years of playing just wiped out, start again. I could have had that fun at any time by starting a new character.
I'm confused why you'd think they'd make you get another 210 upgrade item from the 24 man if they did add them if you've got one from Savage?
A reused skin isn't a big enough hint. Keep in mind that the Eso weapons are already upgradable. Think about if you upgraded it to ilvl 210 already from the savage drops. You'd have to either get a 210 upgrade item from the 24man which I highly doubt, or spend another 3 weeks of esoterics to grab the abse weapon again.
990 Eso > Savage Upgrade Item > New Relic Quest
990 Eso > 24 Man Uprade Item > New Relic Quest
Though I'm not 99.99% sure that will happen :P

It was stated when the HW relics were announced that there'll be some bonus for those with a 2.X relic(not sure if it's just Zeta), but we dunno what. A theory I've seen here is that the Zeta will be an alternative base, in place of the upgraded AF2 weapon.I'm not crazy about the fact they tossed the original on the scrap heap, so if they don't take all that work into consideration in some manner come the next phase, that's one little hamster treadmill I'll be avoiding. There is no way it will require an upgraded AF2 weapon - base token weapon *maybe* - requiring Savage? no way - that goes against the point of the relic as an alternative to raid drops...
Honestly, I'm not holding my breath. That would certainly be nice, but I thought this much talked about "bonus" was the fact we get to go back and buy a crap stat version for glamour. I'll hope you're right.

We're getting a 24-man in 3.1, and if it follows in the footsteps of CT, the upgrade mats will be obtainable through it.
