If Thordan Ex might happen then perhaps Thordan can pull an Odin since his sword was never destroyed after Thordan and co.'s defeat. Combined the fact that it was within the core of the Warring Triad it may have given it that extra boost at transcendence/power. Isn't the seal on the triad leaking? Who's to say that Thordan's sword/ will is still slowly sapping the leaking energy from it?
Yes, I remember that the Hecotonier were slaves of the Thorne Dynasty of Ul'dah, at most they're all seem to be sealed deep undergound. The Gigas (not sure about those giants) were from the north and came south for the Crystal Tower? But yeah, so we we haven't spotted them in/near Abalathia's Spine.
I've got this really bad feeling Ixion is going to be the next Primal, accidentally summoned by the WoL...
While Ice / Lightning are the only two elements not represented by a primal in 3.0, I don't think there's going to be one soon if ever. They don't interact with each other on the elemental wheel; conversely, fire / earth (Ravana) and water / wind (Bismarck) do.
Anyway, not much point in speculating since there's a massive array of summons that could show up. Hell, they went with something completely original (Ravana) and a couple that had only shown up once or twice before (Bismarck and Knights of the Round) in 3.0. Anything is possible.
(*Silently prays for Ark to show up as a lightning / fire elemental primal*)

That is, unless we're looking at an entire new cycle of Primals. We currently have a Water/Wind and a Fire/Earth. We could have a Lightning/Ice, or we could fill in the rest of the combinations (Wind/Lightning, Lightning/Fire, Earth/Ice, and Ice/Water). While I don't think that's likely, it would still be interesting.
But lightning is clearly present in Bismarck. And Ravana has some ice involved with Ganas.
Nidhogg is probably going to be theprimaleikonguy we fight in Hard/Extreme trials for patch 3.1, possibly Fire + Lightning element.
See here. Bismarck is water / wind and that Ravana is fire / earth, but the implication is that they can use lightning / ice, respectively, as tertiary elements.

I don't think the Ascalon is similar to Zantetsuken.
Granted, we have no idea how Zantetsuken came into being, but we watched the Ascalon being forged; Thordan VII did a Shiva-style summoning for Thordan and then warped the body of Haldrath into the Ascalon. I imagine that's why it remained after his defeat - It was never a part of the summon to begin with.
Actually... They might...
Way back before 2.0 was released, Yoshida hinted that we might see tribes like the Mamool Ja (specifically mentioning the Mamool Ja, mind) get more organized and eventually summon a Primal. I remember pointing that quote out when Wanderer's Palace (Hard) was getting teased and showed a very strong Mamool Ja theme... This has recently been true of the Goblins; They've gone from a fairly meaningless side-tribe, to having more lore when Brayflox (Hard) introduced the Illuminati, to finally summoning Alexander. I could see them introducing a Mamool Ja Primal as well, seeing as they've followed a similar arc, though I doubt they'll summon anything as impressive as Alexander... I think I speculated Asura in the past, though I'm too lazy to go check as to why...

Hasn't it been said in the storyline that there are already primals summoned all over the planet?
