It will most likely either be Samurai, Red Mage, or Blue Mage... possibly Dancer, but I doubt it.
Personally I'm hoping for Samurai to be a tank.

Vampire tank! Leach life and sweet moves like turning into a cloud of bats to avoid attacks. Vampire tank for sure!
It's not exactly how I want it, but how I see it.
Blue Mage will get put in as a tank, and will be our transforming class. It's tank stance will be a turtle, it's speed stance will be a Couerl, its dps stance will be a Dragon (probably Aevis), and it's flight form will be Phoenix. Throughout it's story we'll experience extremely heavy nods at the four guardian beast in Chinese lore.
The Turtle will be more reactive like WAR, with more of a focus on reflecting damage than actually dealing damage itself. Instead of burst healing it'll have a heal over time or two to keep itself going. The speed form will be a white Couerl, but made smaller so it looks like it's moving at a decent speed. Might be able to let someone mount you. Dragon will get it's spike damage from breath attacks, and maybe a dive bomb. Phoenix form will obviously just be majestic and amazing.
Limit Break will involve the four spirits protecting the party.
Why? because we gotta copy Druid somehow XD
lol no we don't! We hate WoW! Go away! .... j/k!
Blue Mage shouldn't work as a morpher though. It never did in the FF history. I would rather SE doesn't deviate too much from FF history. However, we had "Morphers" at some point that were basically shapeshifters that changed to different monsters.
As much as I love BLU, it probably won't make an appearance in FFXIV no thanks to how it is setup to have a set number of abilities and traits on all classes.
As for a Morpher, I think it should transform into more lore-friendly monsters instead of the Shishin/four gods (Sì Shòu in Chinese). But I guess it could still work in the forms of Adamantoise, Wyvern, Couerl and Fire Bird. Maybe be literally named as Genbu, Seiryu, Byakku and Suzaku like they were in FFXI. I don't know how it'd pan out though. It'd require massive development time. SE is a bit stingy when it comes to shortcuts and development time! Look at the new jobs being called "Extra Jobs" and having no base classes!
....... Extra jobs... Extra..... EXTRA. They didn't even bother calling it something more creative like "Ishgardian jobs" or Celestial or just I dunno, unique? lol... but extra? /sadface
Oh, I would like to know why you think WAR is reactive? Out of the three tanks it is the most proactive since 2.1. Well, I guess having ways to heal damage post fact makes it more reactive? I dunno. I feel WAR is the most proactive of the three.

Maybe reactive wasn't the right word? Whereas PLD or DRK I can anticipate a large spike of damage and just enjoy 20 sum seconds of damage reduction, warrior it was required to wait for the right time to pop inner beast.
But the main reason I could see morpher not making it into the game is glamor. Once you go turtle that's it, not seeing that awesome gear you just farmed for. Ever.
easily implemented. Bluemage learns his "enemy skills" actions from the job quests at each level interval. It'd make an awesome tank. Aggro Combo could be Goblin Punch>Thrust Kick>Asuran Claws, OT/Debuff combo could be a ranged, mp based like Magic Hammer(MagicdefDown)>Acid Splash(PhydefDown)>Bomb Toss, then an aoe aggro combo Aquabreath>Electrocute>1000 Needles. Mighty Guard, White Wind, Vanish, all cool CoolDown potentials. Vampire Kiss could be a cool dot/Bloodbath hybrid, the possibilities for Bluemage are endless really.
You're right, drop 1000 needles for Detonate. I would've preferred to use Shadowflare for the big boom, but it's been taken.
They added a healer, tank, and ranged DPS class for the expansion + Melee dps (ninja) was added. The next class is gonna be a mage type class for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if they made Red mage a tank class though, seeing how they made DRK a tank, and ninja a dps.
Red mage is able to carry shields, have spells to debuff the enemy, and spells to boost themselves defensive/offensively for threat.
The different en-spells could have different effects besides the element ie. en-fire increase enmity, en-thunder add dot to targets, en-blizzard adds aoe damage to target, etc.
Phalanx the spell from FFIX would be the damage reduction CD spell
Paralyze/slow/blind would debuff targets aka reducing chances of being hit/being hit less.
In FFXI, NIN was suppose to be a DD, but utsusemi mechanics were, well, <BOOMBASTIC>, so blink tanks were born. They added a healer, tank, and ranged DPS class for the expansion + Melee dps (ninja) was added. I do like your RDM idea as a mage tank; Epee and shield, they get to utilize block % and the en spell/phalanx idea would be dope.
