I was thinking maybe an "Arena" airship, you register to fight against a big nasty solo. (big nasty be something like $players_level + 5 ) Only 1-2 fights per travel, cant fight more than 1 arena fight per $quest_time.

sure you can, you can catch kitty girls using fish as bait. You can't fish on an air ship it's in the air not on water. I like the idea of getting that short 10 break. Use that time to go AFK. Strech your legs, rest your eyes or do whatever else you need to during that time. And when they offer mini quest and such to that portion of the game, GREAT!!! Then there will be even more reason to use the airships. I agree with countless others... Not everything has to be instant and you have alternative methods such as teleport and return. Use them.
Thank you so much! This is the type of responce that we LOVE!!!While the airships in 1.19 will feature cutscene-only, quick transport, there are future plans for being able to move around aboard the airship and enjoy the scenery while flying to your destinations. We are also planning on adding airship-related content, such as quests and other things to do.
For now, please enjoy airships as a method of transportation and look forward to what’s coming! ^_^

would be cool if you could own your own airship that way you dont have to wait for it to arrive.

So airships are gonna take ten million years to travel on like ferries?
Well, guess a lot of people won't travel unless they have Anima just like currently. I think most people wanted airships so they'd have an option to quickly get from place to place when they run out of Anima by paying a Gil-based fee.
And for those people saying "durr use Anima" you might notice it gets used up pretty quickly. Now if they made Aetheryte transport between towns cost no Anima so you can get to a main town quickly if you're in a hurry, then sure, go for 10-15 minute airship rides.

Hey, lets all ask for insta-travel chocobos too!
Just kidding! I think temporary insta-travel airships are a nice gift to make up for the fact that anima has been our sole way of long distance traveling for so long. In the end, different methods of travel should have different tradeoffs. If you have to get to a city in a hurry, and you have no anima, you can still pay gil for a tele-taxi.

oh please stop over exaggerating, the ferry ride in FFXIV is no where near as long as the ones in FFXI where, and the airship rides wont be any longer then the ferry ones. It will be a 5min ride at most, and that is the whole point..... yes use anima, that is what it is there for, a "oh crap I need to get there right now" button.
It seems some people don't get the point of anima, it is not to be your main source of travel, you are to use chocobos/ferries/airships to get around, and use anima when you are in a hurry.
Point is once 1.19 comes out, use anima in moderation.

That first paragraph wasn't too much whining and bitching, that's an objective statement. He even started with "I respectfully disagree." It's your own fault you didn't use the time to read the rest of his post and it really hurts your argument when you're trying to blame people for being spoiled for instant gratification.I stopped reading after the 1st paragraph.. too much whining and bitching.
In the second paragraph he outlines his solution to make everyone happy:
That's an all inclusive and forward thinking compromise that actually calls for more legitimate gameplay content. Waiting is not content and it never will be. Having things to do justifies the time spent for an airship ride. Unfortunately your post only calls for a condemnation of a misappropriated idea.If you want to make everyone happy, make a longer airship ride available when you release the first expansion. For example, take the airship ride from Jeuno to Kazham from FFXI. Something like this would be the perfect opportunity to create a longer ride, which you can view the land passing underneath. Furthermore, since this airship is taking you to a more dangerous, hostile area this would be a great instance to implement Airship Pirate attacks. If you made defeating these pirates have a cool reward, then all the people upset that there is no airship ride can just ride this ship all day and kill pirates and be satisfied.
I'm okay with the instant travel. You'll already have to wait for the airship to dock in your departure location anyways and you might even need to pay gil to do so. That's trade off enough. Time wasting mechanics do not create difficulty or useful content. I'm also in favor of future content of a possible airship battle or storyline cutscenes that are initiated by boarding the airship. To point out that the cutscene gets boring the "1000th" time is literally no exaggeration. More than likely we'll be playing this for years and being on an airship 1000 times is plausible. I'd rather spend time playing the game than waiting to play it. Besides, the option to enjoy the scenery and waste time is still available to anyone who wants it. Go out and explore, utilize different party camps, stop grinding raptors. You'll be surprised how much fun you can have. I know I do.

Nothing pleases you people does it?

I really hope they keep it the way it is and do the same with the boat. Sure it looks nice at first, but then it gets mind numbingly boring sitting around with nothing to do.
