There was challenging content. Shame that crybabies told SE that challenge belongs only in raids. They don't have the power to kill off WoW, even though I think WoW is extremely boring, easy, it still provides more challenge than this game. I brought someone to this game just last week whose never played an MMORPG before and they were screaming at me about where's the challenging content.
They even nerfed Quarn and AK story mode lol.
I do agree that the developers don't have the best (or even close) attitude towards their players, nor do they listen to them it seems, going as far as to say they're outright wrong, and promising things that never happen. I don't mean to say all of WoD's issues are affecting FFXIV, but quite a few are. I don't like how Garrisons are forced, if they made it optional and more like player housing it would be amazing. The biggest issue with FFXIV is the absolute insane stubbornness of these developers. Player housing being instanced? They don't want to do that. Fine, open up more a lot more plots for us? Server limitations. Fix Mudras, change them around completely? Nothing, we've yet to receive any feedback after they said a little a huge amount back. Fixing up the new classes, still nothing and it's been over a month since the launch of HW. Remove GC restrictions is something they don't want to do because "lore" even though the lore for it makes very little sense. Glamour log? Server limitations. At least give us something like Void Storage found in WoW. It's all just "Please look forward to it" for ages and ages, server limitations, PS3 limitations, time limitations, whatever else they can come up with. They really have to improve their servers if everything is restricted by the server. Sure it's a big investment, but when you're planning to keep the game up for 10+ years, you have to plan forward.
Now I'm very well aware I'm nitpicking issues that don't make or break a game, but it's all these little things that add up that just put someone off. /rant
Trust me I know, I told him that things used to be a bit harder but SE and their mighty nerf hammer. Gesh.
I'm not sure, I started WoW with MoP (Where most wow players claimed everything was super easy) even though things were easy, it still felt harder than content here to me. Well as far as normal dungeons go, I didn't do raiding so I can't speak on the raiding there.

WoW's new expansion will be released in the next few months, people will all rush and preorder it, and then when it launches, WoW will spike back up again.
And if they learned anything from how badly WoD went, the new expansion shouldn't turn out as bad (Though it probably will be)
But the thing with WoW is, it's playerbase spikes all over the place. For millions of people, it's their home. The MMO they started with, and the one they want to still enjoy. If a new expansion looks promising, they'll buy it, and they'll play it. That's just how they are. It wont die unless Blizzard directly kills the game off, which they don't seem to be doing seeing as they've gone full corporate, and are pushing out expansions like they're hot cakes. They're in it only for the money, yet they know that player satisfaction is how they get that money. SE should really take a tip from them in this area. Blizzard will do smaller things that makes people happy that SE just cant seem to wrap their head around (Dyable fishing glamor, postmoogle cap, tons of other things people have been asking for, for a year now)
The problem is, as said, Blizzard is full on corporate. It's all about the money. And people will keep giving them the money, whether in hopes of the game getting better with whatever new expansion, or just because to them, it's like a second home, and has been for years.
Not really in my experience. The only thing I think adds some difficulty to WoW is its shorter GCD. Mechanically the fights in FF14 are more challenging. There is more to dodge, threat has to be managed and mechanics that are ignored are much more punishing. Early on it is very easy true but that's just part of the learning curve built into the game and you need to remember that often in the DF you will be running with people who both know the fights well and are over geared for those dungeons due to the roulette.
I hope your right even though I have left WoW behind. Past experience makes me doubtful though. It took them over a year after it was announced to release WoD and even with earlier examples you still usually had breaks of over 8 months.
I don't think it will be good for anyone if WoW dies.

If you looking for good pvp i think your going to be disappointed.I've played WoW pretty much for the past 10 years consistently. I used to love the game, but Blizzard gutted it with the release of Warlords of Draenor. The game feels more like a chore then when it was fun. I started to dread logging in. Between garrisions, LFR, and the complete annihilation of professions I finally quit. A co-worker of mine introduced me to FF14 and I have really been enjoying myself. I am only level 33 but the game reminds me of old school WoW, back when it was fun. I have not seen any end game, but I really hope FF14 has some good pvp, and raids. I am loving the dungeons so far!
I loved WoW. In it's day it was (and remains) the best MMO I've ever played. But it's gone off the rails in a bad way lately. It's a skinner box. A slot machine. The only "MMO" feeling content is the raids.
WoW is obviously into making money these days, which all MMOs are, but it uses a Free-To-Play model to monetize while still being subscription based (Tokens are paid for by SOMEONE). It's so obvious it's off putting.
I'd love to see it go back to its former glory but I doubt it ever will. In the end the great WoW killer is exactly what many of us thought it would be: The beast is eating itself.
For me what is appealing about FFXIV is quite simple. When I play it I see effort, real, genuine effort. Someone somewhere loves this baby. A lot of us disenfranchised WoW folks just feel like Blizzard doesn't care anymore and they haven't done much to prove us wrong. Even the dev interviews make me flinch.

You, I like you, that Joker reference...
On topic: I have no wish for WoW to die, but I have a strong wish for FFXIV to continue to succeed so I am rooting for Yoshida and his team, big time.
That's the thing, dodging when it tells you where to go doesn't make it hard. I come from a game where the boss would do an aoe or a certain skill you would have to remember the name and remember what to do (As far as stack or move). There isn't a ground warning and a long cast time, you needed actually learn the boss, you needed to actually remember the name of the skill. Plus the boss/mobs wouldn't always do their skills in the same sequence every time. Which made you have to really be on your toes.
