Going along with the original poster's sentiments, I think that it is an unfair waste of everyone's time to have a raid itself be the actual dps check. You should know beforehand whether or not you can thrive in the content you're seeking to play in, and since that can't done with parsing (officially) there should be some sort of mandatory timed guildhest that gate-checks the content for us. It should be for single players, and it should be difficult for those lacking the equipment and rotation necessary to succeed. When you fail, you should be provided with tips and instructions on how to improve your performance. "Hey have you considered using this combat buff to improve your attack power?" "Eating foods can bestow a variety of helpful buffs. Try eating something that increases your strength." Yes, it's hand-holding, but the popularity of this game means there many, many new players who haven't got the slightest clue what they're doing, and they really need the help. They also need to know how and why they're dragging their groups down, and a system like this would save a lot of raid leaders the embarrassment of having to be the "bad guy" who kicks them.
