    End-game crafting/gathering is like farming Atmas... except it's worse.

    So I took a couple of hours to try the new DoL "Favour" system, because I wanted to craft Griffin Leather.
    Just a piece of leather.
    Mind you that we'll need at least half a dozen of these leathers just for the accessories and belt for DoL (no straight red scrip trade-in for those). (DoH accessories are CRP crafts now for whatever reason but that's not the point).

    So I spent 100 red scrips (gatherer) to buy 2 kinds Favours, one for miner, one for botanist. Got 5 favours tokens of each kind.

    Now, I just had to mindlessly grab stupid Coneflower nodes for 15min.
    And no Concealed node poped up at all during these 15min...
    If they did, I'd need 10 concealed nodes to pop up as Botanist to grab Bladeleaves, and another 10 as miner to grab Blue Ooid.

    So you have to get lucky as to get AT LEAST 20 "atma nodes" to pop while you still have the buffs up.
    The concealed node rate of spawning is far smaller than an atma drop from a lv5 FATE.

    This by itself would make it worse than Atma farming already, but things are even more ridiculous since this is gated behind red scrips, which are kinda painful to get to begin with (will have to spend at least 4h per week just to reach the weekly cap) and are LIMITED. Meaning, you cannot farm it like you do with FATEs for Atma.

    Also, you could burn ALL your hard earned red scrips and still end up with 0 Bladeleaves and 0 Blue Ooids.

    Now... suppose I got 10 blades and 10 ooids if the RNG loved me (hint: it doesn't. Got 0 blades from 2 Botanist favors. Miner was a little better, managed to get 10 ooids from 4 favors, which is still ridiculously low).

    Then I would still have to spend 50 crafter red scrips, and together with those 20 items, I'd trade it for 5 " Odorless Animal Fat" (NQ of course, cuz HQ stuff need items that are EVEN RARER than those).

    Now, I would have to take those 5 pieces of fat, together with red alumen (need 4950 gatherer blue tokens to be able to gather it) and wattle bark (need ANOTHER 4950 for that), and a couple of griffin hide (very low chance to drop from griffins in sea of clouds).

    So, after all that, I would be able to finally craft one stupid piece of leather =D
    so happy !!

    The least annoying thing I can craft with that leather is a DoL ring.

    But the leather by itself is worthless, since I'll still need at least a very rare aethersand from botanist or fisher aetherial desynth from max purity ephemeral collectibles, besides the fieldcraft demimateria III and some other stuff that needs YEY ANOTHER 4950 blue gatherer token to get....... 14850 blue scrips so far, just for ONE DoL ring.

    If I am so bold as to want the choker or the bracelet, I have to go through that WHOLE atma-like gathering process AGAIN, because these crafts require not one, but TWO pieces of griffin leather.
    So that'd be like 120 atmas for 2 rings, 1 choker and 1 bracelet.
    (Besides the leaf/seaborne aethersand and fieldcraft III demimaterias)

    At least for atmas, you needed only 12, and it'd allow you to upgrade your weapon, and there was no RNG after you got the 12 atmas. you get your weapon. period.

    Now, on the other hand, with this stupid new system, after you get the 120 "gatherer atmas", if you end up crafting a NQ ring/choker/bracelet, be warned that they are not any better than the lv58ish Hq stuff that don't require any of this nonsense.



    Let's get real people.
    Not even F2P / P2W games have such sadistic and ridiculous things to do in order to get an item that is HARDLY worth the effort.

    I would really like to have a developer explain what was their intent when creating this system, because me and 99.9% of the world population fail to see how this can be considered any "fun".

    Gods...that sounds horrible. Maybe I just won't worry about trying to level my crafts for a while. Makes me sad to hear all that, since crafting is always my favorite part of a game.

    Last sentence times 100 - i'd like that person getting spanked with 100 pages with just this one question every 5 minutes so he/she realized what stupid idea that new system was.

    Besides that i'd like to add - if you do not do CUL handins for red scrips you can burn through materials worth 2-7m per week (depending on the class you do hand ins for red scrip) as well as the time needed to gather those and actually craft those items to 100% to get max scrip.

    Bear in mind, those Blue Gather Scrip purchases are one time purchases - once you've unlocked on set of folklore nodes, it stays unlocked.

    I dove into this system when I had enough gatherer scrips to get the favours I needed for the items to acquire animal fat (for leather) and coke (for ingots) to make my BSM offhand. I was one of those people who read the posts and giggled thinking "it honestly can't be that bad" -- it is just as bad as everyone has you believe.

    NowI have a 60 BOT and MIN but am no way a "gatherer" outside of fetch what I don't want to buy material-wise. Now as someone who considers themself a "crafter" I have spent I think about THREE - FOUR HOURS running around the favor circle getting enough turn ins for 1 leather and 2 ingots (that number comes from knowing how many favors I bought vs how many I have left).

    Then I spent / traded a few hundred thousand gill worth of items for the other bits and bobs I need for the items (HQ quartz, whattlebark, fieldcraft materia et al.) Oh, and this is where I mention the HQ Coke I traded for was bugged and shows as SQ for about an hour, stressing me out even more.


    And now, like four hours of gathering later, a few hundred thousand gill short and utterly, utterly UTTERLY FRUSTRATED with the system I am finally able to craft ONE item that - if fails and comes out a SQ is WORSE than the one I currently have equipped.

    After crafting this item I fully intend to go scrip gear and be done with this system until they ungate, increase odds or just otherwise imrove the QOL of this crud. Because really, does it all have to be so convoluted and UN-FUN.

    The devs really need to reconsider their design. It's one thing to gate things behind RNG and it's another to gate things behind timed lockouts, but pick one, not both. Time-gating is bearable because I'm guaranteed to make (limited) progress. RNG is bearable because if I have bad luck, I can just throw more time at it to even out the odds. All that goes out the window with red scrips. Nothing is more frustrating than buying a set of favors and getting 2, 1, 0, 0, 1. I get it, bad luck happens and that was a particularly nasty streak but unlike atma or pony farming, I can't keep trying until the Law of Large Numbers kicks in. I'm just out of luck for the week while making virtually no progress. If players feel like they make no progress after spending a lot of time, what is the point? It's just bad game design.

    Devs are really out of touch with some portions of this game. How, during the playtesting and development did they not realize that this new system is no fun. Sure its more complicated and involved, which I guess is what they were going for, but its also miserable and annoying.

    I'm just going to get my crafters to 60 and say "forget it" until they come up with something a bit more manageable. I dont mind a challenge at all (I have all the master I and II books) but this is just too much.
