Threads like these make me sad... Realizing just how much the mmo community has changed or simply how many people focus so much on the shinies instead of finding a virtual world they enjoy and what it has to offer. Simply hanging out with some friends or meeting new ones.

Instead, the majority seem to have fallen to thinking that if they miss or don't cap for the week that they'll somehow fall behind our have to work harder. When regardless of how much any of us accomplish in any game it will never pay off since once a game shuts down, all those "accomplishments" disappear with it...

Oh well, back to the grind for you guys I guess. Hope you get some enjoyment out of your virtual job

More players = more often to come across a variety of players... including the stereotypical sort.

While MMORPGs were generally looked at from an exploration perspective over a decade ago, there's not much of that around these days due to technology advancements and the general mentality that is considered normal (by interwebz standards). These days, the norm is to expect everything possible in as short of time as possible. Doesn't mean they're right to think it, just means that's what the general mind thinks. To us now, our time is precious and is worth more than anyone elses... even if our old selves (assuming we were adults or near it), would disagree with that notion had it been 10 years ago. Ayn Rand thinkers, essentially.

Honestly, the way MMOs work now are partly to blame for that.

In FFXI it was easier for people to create bonds, to get to know others, because the game forced you to play with others. Whereas in games like this, it's mostly a solo adventure, with the DF with people that never say hi back, or at all. People complained about having to be forced to play with others to progress through something, well they got their DF, there you go. People complained about having to wait hours to find a party, well, DF, there you go. Instant gratification affects every social aspect of the game.

Easing everything compromised the social aspect and I completely hate it. I made lots of friends in FFXI easily and in this game, the few friends I manage to make, tend to quit. I can't add friends to my FL through DF, farm parties are always too serious to make friends with, there's no real reason to do content with your FC, it's all 8 man statics and that's it, and you wont always get along super well with people in the static... but you are stuck with the same people. In FFXI, at least the LS had variety of people you could befriend and since there was no cap for instanced content (asides certain content like nyzul), you could do stuff with the whole LS and therefore, you could get to know the other people in the big group that weren't in your static.

People don't like to explore and hate tedious mobs that go after them because then they have to invest more time than needed playing the game (lul), they just want everything easy so they don't have to put in more time in gaming and they also want to get rewarded the same (?!), which is really annoying because games don't work like that, not even mobile games (unless you pay of course, which then makes me ask: Why the hell do you even play if you are just paying your way through so you don't have to play?!), not even board games (and there's some reaally long board games out there). Everyone just afks in Idyllshire and DFs, if they move somewhere it's to do a Hunt or a Fate.

So blame the people asking for easiness from the start and the Devs for giving in. This is why we get games like this, that only proliferate that tendency of focusing on shinies instead of the community or the world they play in.

    Disclaimer: This is MY opinion!
