Nope, I would immediately change to other subscription based MMO (I know there aren't many but I would not have a chance).
I might continue for a little while based on the older content produced while it's sub-based still being there, but I wouldn't expect it to last long after a F2P or hybrid conversion (at least not last as anything I'd want to keep playing). I did continue in LOTRO quite a while after it added F2P, but mainly because I could stay in the earlier areas and ignore the new stuff for the most part. This game has a lot less content, so it would be harder to do that.
I'm comforted to know that SE will shut the game down before going F2P.
I'm willing to pay for quality, frequent updates and very happy with the amount of content Patches introduce.
Nope, love the game but I'd probably quit the day that announcement was made. Glad the game has done well enough that it will most likely never happen. I despise pay to win crap and have yet to see an mmo go F2P and not be full of it despite any claims they make about it not being pay to win.
Having played more f2p mmos then i can count the problem with it is that in the beginning its gonna be mostly glamour but it would be glamour you pay ALOT for.
Imagine 10 dollars for 1 piece of bikini or how about 50 for a mount, thats f2p prices in a nutshell and eventually glamour wont be enough.
Almost all f2p games will at some point end up having gear or materials to produce/aqquire gear in their cashshop and thats the day the game dies cause then cute little jake snags his parents credit card and a couple of thousand dollars later hes out there 1 shotting his fellow mates in pvp.
Yoshi P said that as of last survey, 85% of the playerbase of XIV preferred the subscription model, so they have no plans to alter it for now.
However, if the game goes on life support like it did 1.0, they may reconsider. I don't foresee that happening any time soon.
Plus, even while it is still limited to glamour, it will quickly come to overtake all glamour options available in the game. Once they decide a cash shop can sell glamour, that's the end of any sort of glamorable gear being available from within the game itself. No more fancy gear you can craft or grind for. No more mounts you can try to earn. Etc. After all, any cool stuff you can get just by playing would be competing with their revenue stream. That's the real game killer. To make money they'd have to stop adding stuff to the game itself that would keep it worth playing.Having played more f2p mmos then i can count the problem with it is that in the beginning its gonna be mostly glamour but it would be glamour you pay ALOT for.

Actually, yes.
A lot of f2p players would try it regardless of it being a FFXIV game. A good chunk of people here are only here because they're FF players and not MMO players. With more MMO players they might actually design the game for FF AND MMO players. PLUS there would be a huge increase of decently skilled players.
What makes you say that? Almost all the players I know have little to no experience with FF, and just enjoy MMOs. That ones that never have played MMOs and are FF fans that I've attempted to recruit quit quickly enough.
