Verizon FiOs and Level3's car2 hops have frequently shown signs of over utilization for months now with this game. Their exchanges with Level3 in general have been a mess for a long time and have shown up in forums for other games and services over the years.

While technically they are correct in they have no control over Level3's internal network issues--Verizon does have a say in how much (as well as how little) bandwidth is in place at their exchange points into Level3. They also are not exactly restricted to using only Level3's peering either. Both Verizon and Ormuco peer with the same 5 top tier ISP's---including Verizon's own ALTER.NET/UUNET group (Verizon Business).

They have been getting flamed for their shoddy peering on their own forums as well as other places. Keep leaning in them. Keep sending them sample trace data. It may take some time...but if enough people make enough noise they should start to take things more seriously and escalate the issue.

Pretty much this. It's been a major issue for a long time and it makes playing after work a PITA, especially since I roll as a healer. I said screw it and got a cheap VPN just to avoid the hassle, though it shouldn't be the only solution.

The problem is FiOS and their peering.

Okay so I've tried every solution I can think of and since I'm limited with my options as it is with a PS4, I think my next step is a gaming router, I've heard those can help but I do still like using my G1100, Verizon sent me a splitter for the coax cable so in a sense I can split to two routers, one connection for the G1100, and another for the gaming router which I can turn off the wireless for that and only use it to directly connect my PS4. Now would something like that even work? Would that help my lag issues with FFXIV? Obviously this is uncharted territory for me so if someone could help me with that, then that would be very much appreciated. Also a recommendation of good gaming modem/routers would help.

    Thanks!!!

If everything else on your PS4, requiring any sort of network connection, is working fine as is....don't know how much a new gaming router will help with just FFXIV: Heavensward.

Everything else is running fine, I've been told people who use a VPN router seems to no longer have the issue, it just sounds like that is the route I need to go.

So yesterday I decided to download and try PingZapper. Well, good news is I was able to play during the prime times without any noticeable lag. The bad part is that it sucks that I have to rely on a 3rd party program for me to even be able to play a game Im paying a subscription for.

That is an issue your ISP needs to address...they are the ones determining how you are routed. That is basically what the VPN does...gives you a means to bypass some of your ISP's routing policies that are negatively impacting your sessions to SE's ISP.

Yeah right now I am using a vpn and no lag issues since, though I have a friend who has FIOS in the Northeast and said he has no lag issues at the moment during peak time. Anyone else suddenly not have any issues?

The lag comes and goes for me. It's been fine for the past couple of days except for tonight where it started around 7pm PDT. It's been unplayable for the last 3 hours.
