This is also the kind of thing that starts out fun, but it quickly becomes a tedious chore if you have to pass through the "dangerous" areas a lot.
    ???

Aren't you taking protective measures because the mobs were dangerous? Thus it indeed has a dangerous world? Going "FFXI didn't have a dangerous world because I had to prepare for dangerous mobs" doesn't make sense. Anyway, I liked having to pick and choose between quickly fighting down a monster or avoiding it... in case more patrol through and start attacking. Made journeys through dungeons/strongholds really fun and interesting.

Because the video game industry has changed. MMORPGs have changed. Most importantly, the target demographic has changed. It will never change back.

The past is gone; learn to appreciate what you have now, instead of constantly pining for what you once had.

Yes, and because of those protective measures the world is no longer dangerous, otherwise you wouldn't bother using them. It's only "dangerous" in the sense that if you decided to run up to a mob and smack it it'll probably wipe the floor with you, but the danger isn't very tangible if you can trivialize it with smart movement and item use. The mobs may be dangerous in the literal sense of the word, but they pose no real threat to you unless you go out of your way to make it so (or unless they posses True Sight, but those types are exceedingly rare).

With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.

If I have to return to specific zones over and over again due to the quests sending me there or the new patch sending me back to the old zones, I don't want to waste time fighting trash mobs that aren't a part of the quest, nor do I want to waste time fighting mobs that will not offer me anything if I am on a class that's maxed out in levels.

I been through the Hinterlands dozens of times already (along with other maps). I already seen what the areas have to offer. I got my fill of immersion. Trying to slow me down as if i was still a fresh LV50 WHM is insulting.

Eh. The mobs are definitely more dangerous than they were. ARR mobs were a joke even if you were 10 levels under them. Not so much with the Heavensward ones. I had to partner up with a friend to do daily hunt mobs on a level 52 Black Mage because some of the 55+ mobs kept killing me, even with a rank 20 Chocobo helping me out. I'm having less problems on Bard, but I still have to kite my tail off or die a horrendous death. Stray mobs aggroing me while I'm kiting one can kill me pretty easily if I'm not careful. So can ranged attacks and poison/vuln stacks.

I never played XI, but the stories people tell of the hoops you had to jump through just to move around the map don't sound like much fun to me. My suggestion would be to ditch the nostalgia colored glasses and see that kind of thing for what it really is - tedium. The genre has moved on, and thank goodness for that.

The way the map works in ffxiv any new player can get lost easily.

People of this mindset are on the wrong forums. I urge you, and this is not a throwaway cheaky response, to go to the From Software team and petition for them to make an MMO in the Dark Souls universe. I love those games and I think they could make a brilliant MMO with the level of difficulty you seek. Could you imagine those systems in an MMO experience? I can, and it is epic.

That said, I also love this game for what it is. Only a few minor tweaks are needed (Instance Personal Housing, Remove PvP GC restrictions, Continue adding content) but even despite those minor gripes I have, the game is fine, its not dying, and I don't feel the need to cry wolf if my concerns are not met.

they are probably more dangerous if you stop flying over them.

I just want more Boss fates. There's nothing scarier than having Odin show up next to you. Same as there's nothing funnier than watching newbies sprint away in sheer terror from the demon on a horse. XD

I can definitely agree with this. Odin spawned on top of me and some friends once while we were spiritbonding in Urth's Gift. The remainder of our lives was very short and very memorable, that's for sure. xD
