I have dreamed of duties for crafters where there is some kind of competition like Iron Chef. Only it's not a real competition and you get rewarded individually by the quality and quantity of what you can produce in a given time limit (perhaps with given ingredients as well). When I started writing this I realized there is a possibility of a duty for gatherers as well, something like a large scale multi-person leve. It would be quite easy to write lore for these duties, say, there is a Ul'Dahn bake sale or a Gridanian Arts & Crafts Boutique. Or Amajina And Sons needs a large quanity of ore from Copperbell to fulfill an order for the Brass Blades. Perhaps the original shipment was stolen, irretrievable, and they need more to fulfill the order in record time. They could have very easily written these duties with proper lore into the main story line too. Imagine all the crafting and gathering that was required to make the Sail Barge for Leviathan! A duty sure would have been a heck of a lot more fun than "Go here and inspect the cargo." Surely my talents could have been put to better use than "count the number of logs in the pile"...?
I can only see them being tolerated by people if they're strictly for cosmetic stuff like Urth's Fount, but that would probably be a really inefficient use of resources.
A lot of the issues this game has is tied to the token loot system. If they offered any sort of other gear progression in any way it would be more tokens. They cannot get away from this system without a total itemization rewrite. You know why WoW and even earlier MMO's had unique and interesting dungeons? They had unique and interesting loot and lore tied to them. FF14 is devoid of dungeon Lore and interesting items. Dungeon crawling is dreadfully boring in FF14, that's why speed runs are so prevalent. Just need to get the tokens at the end.

Run same dungeon everyday just to collect the currency to buy gear.
I love questing in this game but once you complete everything all is nothing, just normal daily routine.
We will never use old craft recipe again, the PVE is not really open world PVE at all, just a dungeons and raid.
Fate is boring, just kill bunch of monster.
I have to say that if anything, they need to at least look at ToAU expansion from ffxi. If we compare this to ffxi for example (omg not another ffxi comparison!) coils remind me of bcnms just being called glorified endgame.
In my opinion, they did a lot of things right from nyzul isle, salvage, even the 50 duties, forget what they were called. If the devs plan on copying as much as possible from other mmos, they might as well pull some things many found fun from its predecessor.
Hell, even the goblin mazes could make up for some type of randomization.
I can honestly say I know ppl who keep quitting cuz its all the same thing over and over.

I want to have big explorable dungeons aswell, but alot and... I mean alot of players want to enter a dungeon run a straight path and get their token/loot and leave the dungeon. Most mmorpgs tend to please these type of players. Ten years ago big dungeons with different paths and bosses would have been loved by the community, but right now we have a generation of players that want instant stuff.
I wish we had more explorable dungeons with puzzels etc, but this wont sadly happen with FFXIV.
This would be nice. But only if it stand out of the relic quests. Farming it 20 times the week to get with some luck the items that were needed to start the relic quest killed the fun of it for many players.I would love to see a return of Hamlet Defense Battle content for both DoH/DoL/DoM/ and DoW!
Like for example what if we need to survive a dragon assault on ishgard or one of the vigil, and then not only have to repair the defenses but fight on the front line as well against a hoard of some kind!

The best part of it was also that it dropped the best second tools (the militia tools) for DoH/DoL.
