He's not a total mystery is he? I was pretty sure that he was implied to be a Sharlayan of rank who disapproved of Louisoix's involvement in Eorzean affairs. It would mean he probably doesn't like what his kids are up to either. Sharlayan's are for the most part very non-interventionist.

My question would be, what could have happened to him that he doesn't even figure into the story in relation to Alphinaud and Alisaie though. His own kids aren't even of age yet and running all over Eorzea and he's not even trying to chase those two down. I'd always sort of assumed that the parents were dead or something and that they had been raised by their grandfather, especially since I want to say Alphinaud mentions something somewhere in the MSQ about being taught by Louisoix...? (If I'm remembering that correctly.)

In the Astrologian questline, you find out that leaving Sharlayan is heavily regulated and is in such a way that the brightest minds of Sharlayan are never allowed to leave as they are considered national resources. As such, Alphinaud, who is said to be a child prodigy and benefited from the education of his grandfather, (who himself has been stated to be rather higher up in the hierarchy before his leaving) would very likely be considered one of these national resources and would never be allowed to leave.

No idea where his father, Fourchenault, stands in the contest of Bibliothecs and their opponents. The Bibliothecs, as we are also told in the Astrologian story, are responsible for keeping Sharlayan technology from Eorzeans.

The thing is though, if they could track down Leveva just for trying to teach, it can't be hard to track down Alphinaud, the kid has his hands in all the upper diplomacy of Eorzea. Maybe this will figure into a later questline, or perhaps their father is keeping them form tracking down his kids. Any mention of their mother anywhere, ever?
