Inevitably, you'd have people complaining that they have to do PvP to not fall behind.
No matter how good you make it, some people just flat out don't want to do it.
I personally wouldn't mind the cap so much if the cap "stacked".
example: week 1 you got say 300/450, then week 2 your cap for that week would be 550, say you caped that 2nd week 550/550, well now week 3 is back to 450 so on so forth.
This way I take a week off and not have it effect my ability to gear! I'd also love a separate cap per job but that's just dreaming lol.
You... i Like you. +1 (but instead of 550 it would be 600?)
I know my english its bad, don't bully me T_T.
Those people are few and far between. 450 tomes is a rather arbitrary number as well. It's less than it takes to get a single piece of main equipment, so you'll need 2 weeks minimum for anything besides accessories. The odd part is that in 2 weeks you can earn 900 tomes which is enough to get the stronger pieces first (body, legs), so the actual sum earned is a bit on the silly side. If they had rounded it up to 500, it would cover the costs of most pieces, while still requiring 2 weeks of grind to obtain the more powerful body and leg pieces.Act yes ppl will do runs 24hours there are some that try to pull 70 hours trust me if ppl can just do runs all day they will. And then you will get to many topics of players crying they need more to do and then they just un sub. So i say let the ppl quit can't deal with the cap? i mean 450 a week is fine
Honestly though, the cap is a very artificial way to prevent people from upgrading. There are far better systems they could have employed, not least of all having equipment you slowly upgrade over time as was done in FFXI, or even customized equipment which hasn't even been considered. They need to break the mold, or this treadmill endgame will be recycled forever.
Terrible idea; PvE people do not want to PvP, with this they'd be out 450 tomestones if they didn't. Serious PvPers, likewise, do not want a mass influx of "casuals" joining matches solely for their tomestones. People who are terrible at PvP and have no interest in PvP should not be forced into PvP. All bringing that crowd into PvP would do is utterly ruin PvP.
All the need to do to "fix" PvP is address the Grand Company restriction, though that is completely off topic. Having Esoterics as a reward for Frontlines was a nice way of enticing players in, but out right forcing people to PvP for 450/900 of their weekly Esoterics would be an utter disaster. That's a lose-lose situation for just about everyone.

I beg to differ, I have one friend on my friendslist who plays the game like 20 hours a day. Ive seen him offline once since heavensward was released.
To answer your question, I don't care about cap or not, its just a big treadmill, so I don't care much about the gear at all. Unless its cute. Thats what's important!
Also make more characters so you can get more estorics a week!

Exoteric caps is fine. There had always been caps in this game except for that single month of the Expansion release so that people dont stress out trying to reach 60 to grind AF gears. Now Red scripts seems like a good idea but bad implementation, so that one is wrong in many ways but I guess there will be changes soon since no one likes what they did.
It's not power. it's not gear. it's nothing to do with any of the reasons for people white knighting SE's decision to do it.
It's to keep people subscribed. To give those low attention spanned people a reason to keep logging in and paying the monthly fee. Why? because they don't/can't release quality nor quantity enough content to keep players busy.
My personal opinion is if you make it fun.. people will do it regardless of the reward. It's like people who clear hard mode in single player games. they don't do it because there's a reward. They do it for the challenge. They do it for the fun. They do it so they can say they did it.
this whole idea of "Well you have to have caps or people would get everything and then stop playing." Is stupid. If that's the case then maybe your game is shit. Maybe you need to change what you're doing so that it's enjoyable enough to want to do beyond having not cleared it. Or maybe... JUST MAYBE focus on cultivating community. You know like MMOs used to have and people kept playing them even though we didn't get content updates every 1-3 months with new raids and dungeons.
Yes that's right. MMOs didn't used to get all of this. There wasn't heavy focus on gear grinds and raiding and end game dungeons.. and guess what.. People. still. played them.

i can fully understand the people defending it and the ones that are againist it.
1. pro eso cap : it keeps people who dont raid savage subbed. if they would finish thier gears within a week why continue playing till next update at all? its there to keep subs and currently must be there since everything in this game except savage and ex primals is so DAMN EASY and dumbed down its beyond retarded sometimes. and yet there is still players who dont get if after 10 wipes.
2 contro eso cap : these are normally the "progress" players who want to bring themselfs and thier characters forward as much and fast as they can. for them this cap looks like a hiderance. as a progress player myself i understand that.
so yes. the weekly caps are there to keep people playing. and aslong as not the rest of the game gets ALOT more difficult or ALOT more content than we currently get this needs to be there to keep subs running sadly. because if the game was more difficult it would take LONGER to reach goals for most players. sure there is always players that will just plow trough everything. but these are a minority.
what i dislike currently is that savage mode seems to be GEAR gated more than skill gated than old coil was. if said gear check requires full eso gear then the weekly cap needs to be readjusted atleast. blocking progress for months on a raid because of a weekly cap is NO LONGER OK. but we will see how that turns out next week and the week after.
if savage a4 isnt clearend the week of august 4th were everyone can grab thier free i200 weapons then it probaly is to heavly gated behind the weekly cap. will see how this turns out to be.
I feel the same way. There would definitely be an internal pressure to run Neverreap and Fractal Continuum without the cap, and I would never get around to leveling other classes until I finished my AF2 gear.
Also, it makes it take longer for all of my Alexander/law gear to be replaced, which I appreciate since I just got all of that.
