This stuff with crafting and gathering makes me wonder what BS they are going to come up with for relic 2.0, its going to be some massive gated thing I bet.

I was a 2.X Omnicrafter in max-melded Artisan's.
Now....I can't even. I can barely afford turn-ins for blue scrips. Sure, I can take GSM or CUL to 60 and wait for the cheap lure or the Marion Glas or whatever it is called.
But...DAMN, SE. Seriously. I thought 20 mil going into the expansion was plenty. NOPE. ALL DA NOPE.
it's not bad at all for the blue scripts. there is a cheap turn in for almost every class. the only one i didn't find a cheap one for was arm. my suggestion as an omni is to grind the nuggets on arm, bsm, and make whetstones with gsm. then use crp and do the turn in for mica grinding wheel for your scripts. this allows you to use the materials you already grinded on so already have created for the turn ins.I was a 2.X Omnicrafter in max-melded Artisan's.

bsm/ arm grind on hardsilver nugget once you can make them. make as many as possible while getting 18k+ exp
crp grind on dark chestnut lumber. same as above.
gsm grind on mica whetstones. same as above.
now you have all the materials made already to create the cloud mica grinding wheel. easy to create at level 56 and from 56-60 you make enough exp to cap crp, scripts to get the books for all classes, and scripts to buy all adept gear. granted ths is not the only way to do it, but it allowed me to work on leveling multiple crafts and get all books and gear for very little cost.
the red script gate is where the major issue comes in for crafting and gathering.

I started 3.0 with a similar amount of gil, and within 2 weeks I had not only 8/8 DoH to lv60 with M3 books, but also 3/3 DoL lv60... and I have managed to make back most of my costs within the past month. The secret? Gathering your own materials and not being ashamed to ask a few friends to help you out.I was a 2.X Omnicrafter in max-melded Artisan's.

In fact, I often bartered my crafting skills in exchange for some materials I needed at the time.
One thing so many people overlook are the GC hand ins... A starred HQ item can net you up to half a level of exp!! (not joking, I've got up to 1.8m exp from a single hand in)
Could I have leveled my crafts even faster? sure.. if I wanted to dump even more money into it.. but my DoLs levelled rather painlessly just gathering materials I needed for DoH, GC hand ins and collectables!
EDIT: I wont lie... having leveled retainers also helped out A LOT for certain materials (looking at you ltw....)

As I stand looking out from my window, I reminisce about the old days and the many ups and downs of my adventures throughout Eorzea.
It is then that I know achievement.
Remember Alexandrite?
Relic 2.0 will require 100 Alexandrite Melds, all using Grade 4 Materia, with a 75% success rate. Failure consumes both the Alexandrite and Materia. And the only way to get Alexandrite is via a daily quest to run an Expert Roulette which requires 400 Law (5 expert dungeons) to start.
The next step will be released in a patch 75 days after the patch which introduces Relic 2.0, so you can have EXTRA incentive to grind out those last 25 set of 400 Law!
Don't be silly it will require grade 5 materia with a 66% chance and 2 alex per attempt.Remember Alexandrite?

You will also need to have the relevant DoH at 60 to perform the melds and be a specialist! May or may not require a red script item as well. >_>
That would be easy.Remember Alexandrite?

2.0 Relic requiered a 1 star weapon to be crafted to start the quest. (champion`s lance for example for the gae bolg). I predict next steps into a new relic will include a similar base weapon + our old relic if anything, and i expect said weapon to be 2 stars, requiering quatities of the red scrips materials, literally putting the new relic out of the reach of most people since anything that uses red scrips materials is automatically +50 mill in costs. Good thing this is all made for casual players, imagine if this was for hardcores.
As it stands, and probably will keep being, high end raiding (savage) is kinda the most casual stuff to make on this game. Time wise, you just need to find a good party (hard part) and then just keep working for a few days to start progressing xD
