Without even meaning to, I've been leveling WVR and GSM together since GSM can make HQ weapon and accessories for my WVR, and my WVR can make some HQ gear for my GSM.

Looking at the list of possible cross class, Careful Synth II looks very nice. In the meantime, Careful Synth is pretty nice as I'm guaranteed progress without failing that portion of the craft.

Nearly 2 years later of having the quest locked, I finally can meld my own gear. So far it's only been level 1 crafting materia, but it still feels good to do my own.

Yeldir, your advice is duly noted, but if I cared that much about making money, I would have been in the crafting business a long time ago. I've had the game since ARR EA, and now nearly 2 years later, finally can meld my own gear. I'm in it because I want to have fun. If I make money in the process, that's a side bonus.

I find crafting loads of fun! So keep at it and good luck.
WVR and GSM are great. Add LTW and you can make most crafting gear yourself.

You wot, m8? SE has flat out said stated that crafting for progression is over. This has nothing to do with scrips, and we'd still be well and truly screwed if scrips themselves vanished overnight!

There's two ways to get rich, and I mean really rich, in this game - the first is crafting/gathers for players trying to progress in PVE, who have and will always vastly outnumber the crafting populace, and the second way is crafting for crafters trying to gear themselves out to craft for the former category. The second market is booming at present. The first market, as I've said to you already, was intentionally destroyed by SE.

What part of my claims are you doubting, specifically? They seem incredibly simple to follow, to me. A very short chain of cause and effect.

What about the market that wants to play dress-up?

See but you're acting like 3.5 couldn't change anything. Who's to say there won't be DoW/DoM gear to craft down the line?

Please don't ignore grand company turn ins. Leves are expensive, time limites supply. They have their place, but relying solely on them to level can be painful.

GC turn ins can net you a enormous amount of exp for a high quality turn in, especially when that item is starred. Everything you craft, the mire you fill the quality bar, the more exp you get. Just crafting base components from raw mats plus the item craft itself brings in a lot of exp. This effect is compounded for leves since you are often crafting multiple items for consecutive courier or triple turn in leves.

I say leves are expensive, but only so far as you don't provide your own mats. At the very least though grinding leves can drain your shards, so unless you gather your own, have some gil set aside for the occasional need to buy 500ish shards.

The leves themselves vary in efficiency. Courier offer the most bang for a single craft, thus are material efficient/leve inefficient. Triple turn ins offer slightly more exp per leve, but only if you do all 3 tuen ins. This means making more of a particular item, so these leves are material inefficient/leve efficient.

SE straight up told us that there would be no more crafts that were competitive with raid gear. They were really displeased by how crafting accelerated coil progression in 2.0. If absolutely necessary, I can hunt down the quote.

What we have now isn't stopgap. It's representative of how they want crafting to be from now on. Anyone saying "maybe it'll get better" is saying "maybe SE will come to their senses". Maybe they won't. It's important to consider how deliberately useless the current craftable PVE gear is at 60. I think it is entirely fair and reasonable to warn new players that things aren't what they used to be, and that they may never be again.

Someone in my FC suggested this as well. At first I wasn't impressed, but that was because I did things wrong. At the time, the turn in I tried was for cooking. It was a low level craft of a hard boiled egg. But by the time I got around to turning that in, I was 13 or 14, so that egg gave me garbage exp. Now that I understand them better, I have been making GC turn-ins the first thing I do that day.
