You did everything that could be expected in the situation, at least one person in group recognized that. Try to never let the poor attitude of the jerk population (which is significantly smaller group of the player base) dissuade you from enjoying the game.
Seconded. FFXIV's elitist population is vastly outnumbered by decent, patient players. The elitists don't realize how outnumbered they are because they're self-centered twits who can't see past their issues. Screw 'em, they're miserable gits beneath their bluster. If it takes max performance at a game in order to feel like a useful member of society, how awful must one's life truly be?

Ahh yes, the only time I've been kicked was a while ago. I was kicked from Turn 7 by a premade group because the healers didn't want to 'heal another melee'. This was after we wiped a few times due to their brd buddy pointing voice at the rest of the group. I just became their scape goat I guess. Imagine their surprise though to learn that I was not only on the same server and knew what FC they were in, (I've seen them around and used to help the FC from time to time with EX Primals, that and our FCs were neighbors!) but to learn that I was friends with one of their FCs officers, whom I immediately complained to.
