I'll start thinking differently when you point me in the direction of all the overwhelming support for this system and all the people that are just pleased as punch with the current state of things. I see a handful of people supporting this awful punishment of a grind, whereas everyone else, including longtime crafters since launch, are ready to throw in the towel and walk away from the utter mess they've made of crafting and gathering.

When I see this system, I can't help but be reminded of Archeage or TERA's crafting system. They got a "stat ressource" they do spend when gathering/crafting which regen over time. Those games beeing free to play, got cash shops obviously, and got those "super convenient" potions which give a boost to this same regen, allowing them to craft or gather more over the same period of time.

A weekly cap is pretty similar to this, as the "script ressource" regen every week. Which brings me to my next thought :

"When do we get red script token to buy in cash shop? It'd have the same effect as those potions in those other games.".

Battle gears beeing worth not much, it wouldn't affect the balance of the game, right? It would only be for glamour purpose, since crafters eventually will just do that. This way, what our dear Yoshida-san said about "cash shop not affecting game balance" wouldn't be a lie. Technically.

More alternate characters, faster red script farming. So it\\\\'s not that far off.

This is a rather rational take on the new system. It sums it up quite well.
    https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...ers_extremely/

    Forgemaster's Hammer
    3x Adamantite Ingot
Each Adamantite Ingot requires the following:
    * Two items crafted from high-level mining mats
    * Two items from high-level mining nodes gated behind a grind that requires you to farm 198x tokens from blue scrips that can only come from every-30-minute rare-spawn unspoiled nodes.
    * FIVE items which require the following:
    1) Limited weekly currency which can either be spend on these crafting mats or on progressing your crafter's gear, and is expensive to acquire due to mats required for red scrip turn-ins.
    2) 20x items which can only be gathered by miners and botanists by spending THEIR limited weekly currency to acquire limited-use buff scrolls that give them a CHANCE to find a small number of these items while grinding on lesser nodes for 15 minutes.
    1x Astral Birch Lumber
    * Just as crazy as the above, except it also requires high-level alchemist-created mats because fuck you, carpenters.
    1x Adamantite Rivets
    1x Hardsilver Ingot
    * These two are easy to get.
    3x Leafborne Aethersand
    * Gatherer-only rare drop from reducing mats you can only get from irritating timed Ephemeral nodes.
    1x Mastercraft Demimateria
    * Everybody's favorite awful grind is back, where you get to spend hours levelling up Desynthesis for the privilege of getting to grind for items just so you can destroy them for a chance at getting one of these things.

I would have no problem with any of this... if only the DoW/DoM recipes served some sort of purpose.

It's worth noting that scrip-wise the crafted items are much cheaper than buying from the vendor with your scrips, assuming you can HQ it.

I think I have decided on what to do with my red scrips. Every 5 weeks I will buy a mainhand tool and a body armour for one of my crafters. This will get me to the minimum requirements for those 2 star crafts without any overmelds (except CP).

Not sure if I am going to upgrade my accessories with anything but the green ones. Maybe when I'm bored (which I probably will be).

This is the dev's failing. They failed to come up with content to keep us busy, so instead they design the bare minimum and draw it out by gating it. Yoshi did a good job with 2.0, but so far 3.0 has been meh.

I'm starting to think this game will play out like the Star Trek movies, odd versions are awful, even versions will be great.
