Why not add it back with the current effect. However make the effect LAST 10 seconds (for example) instead of "FOREVER"Greetings,
We've been getting a lot of questions regarding the black flame aspect of the Darkside effect that was shown off in the job actions video and how it changed for release. The first thing to note is that the video showcased graphics and animations that were still under development. While the black flame animation looked great while standing still, it began to look very unnatural in many other instances, such as moving or while mounted, and so on. As such the dev. team decided to remove this aspect of the effect.
This effect is horrible.. HORRIBLE. It is obnoxious and hurts your eyes and RUINS other effects the DRK uses.
You submitted to the Darkside, make the effect last 10 seconds. Or make it a buff I can click to remove.
Give us options, there is obviously a problem if there is a thread that is this big.
I am tired of every single patch and it feels like the issue is being ignored and swept under a rug. I just saw 3 darks by the marketplace with it on and its taking up the entire screen in red crap. It does NOT look cool.

All I want is for the darkside aura to obey the effect-settings in my options *like every other ability/spell effect in the game*. In other words, if I have non-party member effects set to "off", then I should not be seeing the darkside aura effect outside of my party, period. I can't even see crafting effects of people outside of my party.. why in the world would you apply this to every effect except the darkside aura? That's insane. Please flag it so it can be disabled like all the rest.

Just make it like the aura the ascians(sp?) have but black and red instead of black and purple,or like others suggested, like the dark clone on the level 50 dark knight quest.
You already have darkness related auras in the game that look great including on npcs in the dark knight job quests. Why not just give us that and put an end to all these complaints?
Not very happy about the response we just got :/ But well if you guys really think you can't add the black flames then, just like everyone is saying just give us the exact same aura as the DRK npc on the lvl 50 quest. Its basically the same effect but cramped down to our characters instead D: That's all we want, way better than the obnoxious light show we have right now.

Just make the flame effect fade to remove while your moving and on mounts and reappear when you stand still. Rotations not counting, just translation in X and Z. Or X and Y if Z is your up axis like most games.
Do that and reduce the current effect to be around the chest like that DRK quest that everyone wants.
Black flames only when stationary and aura around torso always, and I think that fixes the dark side aura issue

So many great ideas on how to solve this on this thread Square Enix. You wouldn't even have to design a new aura since the assets are already in the game.
This is my first ever post in the official forums, I read all the time but can't really be bothered to post. I feel so strongly about this that I felt like I needed to set up my forum account to let the devs know, this change is absolutely, 100% mandatory. The current Darkside Aura sucks, plain and simple. I'm actually shocked to see this post,to see that others are complaining because I feel the same way! When I saw the lvl 50 drk Aura in the job quest, the first thing that came to my mind was why don't we have that aura? It looks amazing. It doesn't need to be the same exact aura but the current Darkside Aura needs to change, please relay this information to the Japanese Devs.
As paying customers our voices deserve to heard, hopefully we'll hear more about this in an upcoming announcement.

It used to look crappy when people moved, so you made it look crappy all the time?
Makes sense.

At least make it so others can turn it off so their eyes aren't assaulted by it.
