I was attracted because of the benchmark demo. I thought the battle system was gonna be like it looked in there. The miqo'te chick puts up a force field and the the baddies couldn't get through. I thought it was gonna be dynamic gameplay.
dynamic meaning : when u hit a enemy it falls back, or when u cast fire on it IT catches Fire. But oh well here we are.

I wasn't originally interested in this MMO, or any for that matter. But my bf showed me that Square was coming out with a new MMO, then proceeded to go on and on about the great times he had in FFXI.
From that we decided to try/play the "new" Final Fantasy mmo thingy. We both pre-ordered the game and have been playing ever since.
So we were attracted to the game for no other reason than it being a new, Final Fantasy experience. And we keep playing because A. we paid for it. B. Updates keep occurring and changing the game dramatically. C. It's fun to kill things with each other and friends!!

What attracted me? hmm.. I love the FF series.. and this is the first MMO I have ever played.. so yup gotta start somewhereAlso since it is new, I wouldn't have to feel so behind in the game compared to other players if I had joined XI. Then again, I don't have the time in my life to have EVERYTHING to 50 like some players already do.. How the hell can people have everything maxed out by now? I am just thinking about how much time needed to do it, what else do they do in life?
If you think about it in terms of total time needed and forget to include the amount of time that has accrued since launch then your statement appears rational.
However, reality is that if I spent the 2 hours every 36 it takes to do Leaves and I did them every time since launch I'm looking at most if not all War/Magic classes ranked up by now.
I have my 2nd and 3rd 50's coming shortly and I have barely played even while "active" plus I took about 5 months completely off since launch.
I'm not trying to be rude by stating what I did. I just find the "anyone that plays more then me" argument distasteful and obviously false.

I only have 1 r50 and a few 30's, but ya almost everyone plays more than me. I should have specified about the players I see grinding all day - literally, usualy crafters. watch anime while grinding crafts for hours. I hear about playing online games so much that it is sometimes seen as an illness.
1 because its final fantasy.
2 its an mmo that i can play with a controller. I hate playing games with a keyboard and mouse. At this point using a controller may be the thing that keeps me playing this instead of switching to TOR or GW2. If one of those turns out to be great i will give it a shot but cant see myself enjoying those games playing with mouse and keyboard for long periods of time.
