Bad healers are going to be bad healers. Of course I'd use Medica/2 when I'm on WHM, pets are sometimes out of range and I won't bother wasting another GCD to heal a pet. Not every raid wide damage needs to be immediately healed back up, most of the time it's enough to let your fairy top people off (only works for SCH obviously).
Either way, don't blame your healer when a pet dies. Every SMN/SCH has the tools needed to heal their own pet. Every MCH can resummon their turret with one button, instantly and for free (I don't expect them to die more than within 10 seconds).

If 3 out of 8 people are damaged then you may end up doing more harm by overhealing the other 5.

I literally glow red with rage whenever somebody says something like this in a smn/sch guide: "NEVER use Sustain! blahblahblahi'mreallybadblahblahblah" It's a cheap hot that keeps you from spending 4 times the mana and a swiftcast to get it back out later.

My job is to heal. If I don't dps in a fight where my dps isn't absolutely necessary then you can bite me. I try to dps but I won't if I'm not one hundred percent sure that I won't be risking somebody's life by doing so. On the flip side, if nobody is dying then stop complaining when your healer dps!

Healers have the most difficult role in this game and it isn't getting easier when we are also expected to dps as well as the tank or better. We only ask that you avoid the bad on the ground, hit your memorized button rotation, and, for eff sake, AVOID THE BAD ON THE GROUND! Is it asking too much? I don't think so.

I've always played as WHM so not sure how others heal but that's definitely not what I do. At each pull I typically will pop a Regen on the tank after he grabs aggro, sometimes Divine Seal first since it has a quick cooldown. Depending on the size of the mob I usually will then do a Medica II, and then Cleric Stance. I'll decide then how I want to proceed but usually Presence of Mind and then spam Holy if it's a large mob. If the tank's HP is dropping quick (but still safe as Regen/MedicaII are bringing it back up, but where I know I only have a few seconds), then I might just normal cast 1 or 2 Holy, then drop Cleric, and usually Cure II the tank. Otherwise after spamming Holy I will sometimes now use Assize while in CS to give a quick HP boost to everyone, restore a bunch of that MP I lost, and many times do enough damage to finish off the mobs. It's VERY rare that I have to heal DPS, typically only if they step in an AoE, but many times the Medica II takes care of that for me anyway unless they are really low, then might pop a Cure II, or if things seem okay just a Regen. If there's just 1 or 2 mobs then usually will just use Stone II/III as it's actually pretty powerful. I always DPS during dungeons though as there's always time to. Even on hard bosses, especially at the start there's always 5-10 seconds where you can pop Virus, Aero III, Aero II, few Stone III's before having to switch back out. Might not pop into it for another minute or two, but hit an Aero III, Stone III and back out when it's off cool down and heal away. Generally the only time I ONLY heal is in a new dungeon's boss, especially if we wiped on it once and my MP seemed to be pushing it. Then I'll typically try to only heal just to conserve the MP. I figure in those cases if anyone got mad that I wasn't DPSing I'd have the excuse that I'm a healer after all and I am healing. I've never had anyone get mad at my DPSing or not though.

And I only mention the pets cause it's one of the more obvious give aways to what the healer is not doing if all players including the pets have been damaged bad and only the players get healed while the pets never even received a Medica2, not to mention anyone else for that matter.
You are attempting to generalize methods of healing that are entirely situational. If the players are too spread out for Medica or Medica 2 to reach them all, then it would be more of a MP waste to cast it over individual Cures. In a pre-made group with friends, I can call out for everyone to gather up to heal them all at once. In pugs, I'm not going to bother.

But if a player is ONLY ever casting single target cures or ONLY casting AOE heals, then you're just grouped with a bad healer. Trust me when I say it is not the new normal thing to do. Dust yourself off and move on.

I see it sometimes in rav ex when im paired with a whm xD
They sometimes do tht single target heal cycle thru party list then bam atma linga strikes and they r still single target healing -> apply aeros then single heal. I feel like sometimes they forget how to aoe heal or use cure 3 on proc.
    oh well

Op still seems oblivious that SCH doesn't have medica, they have succor which heals for half of that and adds a shield. If a SCH is low on mana single target physics are better than succor, less time efficient, but more mana efficient.

Look at the bad healers they did X in unknown situation Y. And their pets took damage. Oh the humanity. Will somebody please think of the children?!
@OP You hold back any kind of necessary information to do any kind of judgement. Healing is situation and especially in PUGs 2 runs of the same dungeon/raid won't exactly play the same. On the first run you might be able to stay at around 70% mp the whole time in the next you pray to good that people start dodging stuff so your mp bar won't jump out of the screen and punch you in the face.

Also pets take reduced dmg compared to players. So if I my pet doesn't run into any danger of being killed I won't waste any button presses to move it around and instead keep it where I'll hit the maximum number of players with it's buffs/heals.

the only thing that i do for pets, is put maybe a stoneskin separately on them when i play before fight.
as for a ps4 controller player, its very difficult for me to heal pets or if i had pets to place them to some place. When I played as SCH i macroed fairy fairly enough, and make her follow me, so AoE heals take care of it sort of.
I have a different target setting separetly for pets/npcs, but im not gonna waste mana on healing those especially when with AST you already have enough mana issues to deal with.

Protip number 1: DPSing on a SCH consumes less mana than healing. When trash dies faster you have to heal less (your oom reasoning makes very little sense).

Protip number 2: Pets receive extraordinarily less damage from AOEs, to the point it's so insignificant they always end up being offhealed by the occasional medica/succor, or even a self embrace. Furthermore, they take zero damage from ground aoe effects. The only thing that kills pets consistently is an add autoattacking them or cleaving them, but if that happens, consider yourself at fault TC (you main tank right?), because you've lost aggro to EOS/Garuda, and that's far more worrying than your topic lol.

Not sure if this was mentioned but I peraonally turn off as much clutter (names, hp, etc) so I can better watch for mechanics like conflags in turn 5. Also the couple hasty cures might be because people are too spread out to effectively use aoes and on ast I have this lovely skill called synastry. Also whm and ast can proc a "free" cure/benefic II so dont be too hasty in saying ermagherd bad healers o.O that free cure can be held incase a dd stands in the fire or the tank takes spike damage. 7k+ insta cast crits on benefic II could save you from eating dirt.
