To be fair, even in full vit gear with full vit bonus stats, I still the the occasional healer that can't keep up. I'll agree with others here: VIT gear for DF / strangers, STR gear for your static when you know your people (and you) can handle it properly. I usually get VIT gear first, then go back and get all the str gear as well to have options, and eventually use on other classes I care less about. Honestly, if you are rocking STR gear and your healer isn't keeping you up, just swap to vit gear you should already have anyhow. If you still fail, get gud, get salty, post on forums.

thats exactly the point why this thread got to 37 pages

it wouldnt have gone so far if *some* people would not try so hard everytime here on the forums trying to boost theyre ego with killing something fast :P if you do it for your own satisfaction its fine really , calling someone mediocre or whatever using vit gear is not gona make it better :P

in fact this game is not called FFXIV : A SpeedRun Reborn XD , its just a game and the people i play with want me actually to use vit gear as tank , because its actually my role :P

Bold is why it's gone 37 pages. "The people i play with want me to use vit gear" is a perfectly lovely reason to use vit (or str). It's the stricken part that has perpetuated this and other threads so far. Your friends want you to wear vit so you wear vut. Good for you. That doesn't make str "wrong". It is not a tanks role to stack HP. Their role is to mitigate party damage. This is done by maintaining monsters attention and mitigation the damage directed at them. A tanks "job" isn't to have ad much HP as possible. Keep threat, mitigate damage is the purpose of a tank.

That's like saying a whm "role" is to have as much mp as possible. Mp doesn't make a healer heal harder just as hp doesn't mitigate damage or generate threat.

I don't know about you, but I see two tanks listed both which took damage which would lead one to believe that the "OT" was soaking blinding blade.

And that 4 minute kill would have been extend by only 4 additional seconds (and I am being generous with that number) if you had used a VIT tank instead.

Your 240 second fight.. let's be really nice and pretend the STR tank is contributing to 1/8th of the damage required to beat the encounter. So, that STR tank's damage is then responsible for 30 seconds of the time it took to win. Let's replace him with a VIT tank and claim he's doing 50% less damage than the STR tank (/eyeroll), making him responsible for a pitiful 1/16th the damage dealt. To equal the STR tank's damage output the VIT tank would have to continue fighting an additional 30 seconds (60 seconds total) to match the STR tanks damage.

Except we're not taking turns attacking the boss.. the VIT tank's team is continuing to do damage during that additional 30 second period. Divided up against the remaining 7 members that 30 seconds turns into 4.2 seconds each, which means we've stretched a 4 minute encounter out to an unbearable 4 minutes and 4 seconds. /votequit

4 seconds of saved time versus a 25% reduction in your tank's health pool. Is that the point you were trying to make here?
