But having a bad VIT tank would be better than having a bad STR tankSeriously, you can go around in circles about this all you want, but at the end of the day it all comes down to differing playstyles. Some STR tanks are terrible. Some actually know what they're doing. You know what? The same thing applies to VIT tanks, along with every other class, job, and build you can think of..
Some people here are really passionate about their stat/acc allocation.
My static is fond of me, and the healers are happy with me having vit accessories. After reading the (oh so vocal) opinions of a few STR tanks here, I thought I'd give it a try and mix some accessories.
I'll let you guys know if the boss dying a minute earlier than normal makes a difference or not ;b (I'm joking, please don't get offended. And if you do? Wow!)
The point I'm trying to make is that we all have our preference, and if the group we are playing with is okay with said preference, why are you guys still arguing? Why not be open-minded about it and accept that BOTH ways are viable? Because they are!
Usually (at least in my experience with Fractal runs) if the DPS are focusing down the giant then it's dead before it even casts the buff, or if it does cast the buff it's only going to last for another 2~5s. Pop a CD, gg.
See, that's the thing. Those of us in favor of STR (or penta-melded) accessories know that there's a time and a place for everything. It's the people who are adamant that VIT is the only way to go that fail to see the whole picture and can't accept that there are times when tank DPS isn't just preferred but actually needed.
Yes because I wasn't making a point about a down side to the maximising DPS mentality at all and was only commenting on that one scenario.
I don't have an issue with the giant but the world isn't perfect and I have seen DPS that don't pump out stupid amounts of damage and yet weave in stuns without thinking making things stun immune and have it not die in time.
Wait, that giant can do that much damage? I've never seen it do that...odd, considering I run around in 13k-ish hp. If it indeed can do 14k+ hp I would have died at least once through all those runs I had. I don't even remember ever seeing any major damage on those set of mobs. Maybe I just keep having all these giants killed too fast. I don't even run ex with fc members often since I log in during non prime time save for fc events.
Must be all these str accs.
Not completely true my friend; there are voices on both sides that make their side look bad.
There are plenty of STR tanks with a 'gitgud and wear STR or you're holding your party back' and there are plenty of VIT tanks with a 'stupid STR Tanks just want to see big numbers.'
I fall in the middle, adapting as my team needs![]()
Getting by 1 point of damage 14 thousand times would kill you. I'm sure it would take a boss a bit less hits then that tho.
Then why do I only hear ''str str str''? Has ''vit vit vit'' taken a vacation and is there currently only a place for ''str str str''?See, that's the thing. Those of us in favor of STR (or penta-melded) accessories know that there's a time and a place for everything. It's the people who are adamant that VIT is the only way to go that fail to see the whole picture and can't accept that there are times when tank DPS isn't just preferred but actually needed.
It's kind of a sad day when the guy that ran dungeons (and lfr) in WoW as dps with the tank role assigned for queing faster, has to argue that tanks should focus less on their dps and more on their tanking.
If you feel like you need (sounds like an addiction) to dps more, you should perhaps consider rolling a dps class.

Yes, DPS shouldn't make things stun immune that need to be stunned (like the adds that do the AOE in Fractal) but if it happens then... pop a CD. They're there for a reason.
Balance is key. Tanking takes priority, but if you let tanking take complete control then you lose out entirely on your other priority which is to DPS.
