    Because the entire companion system is poorly coded, and Square knows it, they just don't feel its worth addressing at this time.

    - Can't queue with your companion out
    - Can't mount a different mount with your companion out
    - Can't summon a minion with your companion out

    I love my chocobo companion, I really do, but dang.

    It's pretty much this. We couldn't even ride our companion when it was out for a good year of ARR's life. Pet's are a different situation since they're budgeted on a per-player basis. A companion takes an actual party slot and is handled differently. Probably a band-aided manner, but it got the job 'done' for what limited use the birds have in the first place.

    You also can't summon a minion with another mount out. And an aleady summoned minion get invisible if you call a mount, not only the companion.
