Will we ever be able to remove our shoes?

I like the idea.

They would have to alter the model, and also change their x/y position in the game data to make them stand on surfaces the way they are supposed to,

We don't stand on surfaces the way we're supposed to now. (Particularly on sloped surfaces where our feet clip with the ground because the feet model always assumes a level surface.)

And, as Adire mentioned, there are flatter shoes than those default sandals already in the game. Shoes display shorter or higher heels without changing our character's height by essentially adjusting the length of our characters' legs near the ankles to compensate, shifting the position of the foot in comparison to the rest of the body. Since there are shoes that do that already, it should be feasible enough for a "barefoot"-look item (The Emperor's New Boots?) to do it as well.

But even if they didn't adjust it, hovering half an inch off the ground would be barely perceptible from our normal camera angles. Certainly less distracting than the clipping that already happens on sloped surfaces anyway.

Bare feet sound the same as soft leather shoes, which are already in game.

I've asked this same thing plenty of times in the past.

Fairly sure originally, they were added because the previous team thought it was 'unrealistic' to be running around barefoot. But that team isn't there anymore, so I'm hoping Yoshi.P and his crew make this happen at some point. If realism is really an argument.. We have transparent glamor items. Bikinis. Chocobo suits. Snowman heads. Dancer outfits.. Need I say more? Glamor or not, people are running around in them, tanking in them, DPS'ing in them. Any argument made about it being 'unrealistic' has so many counters by what is already in the game alone.

But as the rest said, it'd come down to the model. I believe the closest your feet get to the ground are with the sandals from the previous summer event. (The ones I'm hoping go up in the store soon)
They'd have to either redo the model so that when you're barefoot, your feet actually touch the ground, or do something to at least make it look as if we're actually standing on the ground and aren't hovering slightly over it. As the poster above said, leg length can fix that, but there would come a point where it would just be too long. Not sure if going barefoot would hit that point or not.

I still support this 200% though, it's aggravating that those base sandals cant be removed, especially when I'm sitting in a bath, or laying in a bed.

Edit: I think the heels would be the biggest problem. They never seem to come as close to the ground as the rest of the foot beyond a certain point.

I have seen it asked recently actually, like a week or two ago.
And the answer is always the same: No.
They would have to change the model, too much work for little to no gain.

It is more work than one might expect

I don't really buy this. Have you seen the bunny slippers? They're pretty much as flat and low to the ground as being shoeless would be and I don't imagine the sound would be that different.

Not to mention as others have said, we already float above the ground and sink into the ground in some places. It might take SE a little effort, but we've already got much more noticeable axis problems already in the game.

I kind of want to take my shoes off. That includes the magical heels I wear underneath shoes. Not being able to remove them since spawning probably takes its toll on the warrior of light.

Will we ever be able to truly be barefoot? I'm sure this question has been asked already, but not recently apparently.

Because why not ? We've had topics suggesting much crazier things. This is a realistic suggestion.

It isn't weird to you that with all shoes off, we still have shoes on? I wonder if Eorzeans are born with shoes on....

Oooh, I'd love a whole "Emperor's new shoes" item or something that makes your character actually bare foot. As a slight addition too it, I'd freaking love if that sorta item actually made the stockings/socks in the game into well, actually stockings/socks instead of these weird legging things we get.
