I don't have the quote/article for it...but I have heard that atleast one person did ask Yoshi whether Derplander actually exists in the game, and his answer is that he does and is having his own adventures, and that we may one day cross paths with him.

Which if he really did say that, he held true to it.

I keep seeing that quote, and it honestly sounds like it was noncommittal.
If he isn't symbolic and it's just one WoD for everyone, I'm still calling him derplander. Fool's had that nickname for years. And it's staying.

I would have liked the idea of a WoD that was chosen from everyone else's appearances, though, like how dragon's dogma did the seneschal during new game plus.

So yes, the Midlander male, Miqo’te female, Roegadyn male, Elezen female, and Lalafell female in the recent trailers are in fact the same ones that appeared in the 1.0 trailer! (Yes, the black mage is the Elezen female from the morbol party, not the snooty male from the Midlander’s party. The robe & hat conceal some of her more distinguishing features, and we all know there was no bust size adjustment feature back in 1.0).

But that still leaves one question—was the party an actual party, or were they merely symbols meant to represent you, the players? Well, you can breathe easy knowing they are both. They all ventured into Eorzea at the same time as you did. They all did similar quests, and lived through similar adventures. They exist as your characters exist (in a virtual world-sort of existence). The fact that you haven’t come across them is probably the same reason you haven’t come across my character, Amanda Hugginkyss (or maybe you have? /wink). They’re just somewhere else. Though, maybe you’ll stumble across their party in the future. Or maybe you won’t. How’s that for committing to an answer?

People need to stop looking at Derplander as a character and realise that he's a symbol to represent all of us players. In the canon story outside of player involvement Derplander is the WoL. When you play you are essentially substituting him with your own character. There are other WoLs besides ourselves (and I believe Ysayle's use of a crystal of light in 3.0 was a big hint that she may have been one herself) but we/derplander are the most powerful.

The use of Derplander to represent the WoD should entail the same symbolism. He is likely just a symbol to represent the group of WoDs. Whether that makes the WoDs our doppelgangers or not remains to be seen. Based on what we know, all we can deduce is that he is representative of the Warriors of Darkness. People suggesting Derplander has switched sides and become the WoD have misunderstood what Derplander actually represents.

So Derplander = primal of the Warrior of Light = Warrior of Darkness?

Another possibility that they have seeded with hints in various places is that the World might have been split in the distant past (as was FFV) and that the Ascians are trying to remerge them.

The Warrior of Darkness might be the hero of the other world.

Other than having derplander "make god bleed", what other ways do you think he can be introduced?

For those at home, the quote is from Iron Man 2, where are a brutal fight on TV, Ivan Vanko says to tony stark "If you could make God bleed, people would cease to believe in Him. There will be blood in the water, the sharks will come. All I have to do is sit back and watch as the world consumes you." Imo, it means By showing the hero can be hurt, the idea of their protector falling becomes real in the minds of those that rely on it.

I wonder if it is actually Derplander, and he hasn't simply been corrupted by the Ascians. Elidibus said we'd join him if we understood him, so maybe that's where the Derplander's adventures took him: to a point that he could understand Elidibus, and ended up joining team darkness.
