some historical armor was like that OP. for instance jousting armor occasionally had a fixed helm, and many helmets have their neckguard built into the helm itself. while historical armor was never that bulky, the amount of metal strapped to you generally hinders movement a lot. theirs a reason why 'half-swording' (using your off-hand to guide the blade into the slits of a suit of armor by grabbing the blade at it's midpoint) and using the blade of the sword as a grip for a make-shift crossguard hammer became a thing.
